Hi there,

just starting with dedicated servers and i was wundering is this stats are normal when using the free command.

[root@apollo /]# free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1022796 1009008 13788 0 81276 785080
-/+ buffers/cache: 142652 880144
Swap: 2048276 22064 2026212

The machine has 1000MB memory, but only has 13mb free of it??

Yes, it's normal. Linux will by default use up all that extra memory for a cache & disk buffers....since there's no point in having unused memory! It will free up memory as it's needed.

Your "actual" memory stats are on this line:
-/+ buffers/cache: 142652 880144

Which is telling you that when buffers/cache are not considered, you're actually using 142,652MB, and have 880,144MB free./
