After one of my servers got hacked, RS installed a new SCSI drive for me. Today I got this alert from Cpanels monitoring utility:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
You should backup all the data on the hard drives listed below and replace them as soon as possible.
S.M.A.R.T has detected that they are not peforming within normal operating paramaters.

Disk Failure soon on /dev/sda

Device: FUJITSU  MAP3735NP        Version: 5605
Device supports S.M.A.R.T. and is Enabled
Temperature Warning Disabled or Not Supported
S.M.A.R.T. Sense: (12) HARDWARE IMPENDING FAILURE DATA ERROR RATE TOO HIGH
Current Drive Temperature:     40 C
Drive Trip Temperature:        65 C
Current start stop count:      32 times

Does anybody know if the drive has to be replaced? And what's the best way to swap a bad drive (this is my primary drive - will I need a restore)?

Take backups. Contact RS and see if they can slave your current primary to a new main hard drive whilst you copy over the data. They may say "Ignore the email, it's a known fault", but at least it'll be RS's recommendation and you're covered in either case (with your backups)
