I am trying to setup dns servers for my domain www.domain.nl, the nameservers are ns1.domain.nl and ns2.domain.nl.

Wen try to register them by my registar for .nl domains i get this warning:

A record is missing for the localhost.

What do I have to add to my DNS Setting and will i have to do that in the template or only on the domain with has mine nameservers?

thnkx.. just starting with my own dns icon_wink.gif

Normally, the presence of an A record for localhost would mean a resource record like the one below:

CODE
localhost.    IN    A    127.0.0.1

As far as where you should add the record, I would say both places just for now. It would make sense to add it under the specific domain name of course, but also under the overall DNS template for future domain nameserver setups. I'm sure I read somewhere that adding new resource records to the overall DNS template wouldn't update the domain names that already was present/defined. Someone please correct me if I'm totally off track here? icon_smile.gif

Best regards!

Thankx that did the trick icon_biggrin.gif

I have add a A-record like this in the template.

localhost. A 127.0.0.1

and for the domains i already had created i had to add this line to the dns of that domain.

Now the registar says:

errors=0, warnings=0, informational=0

Well, any time! Glad to be of any help. icon_smile.gif

Maybe you could help me with one thing though, what does the dutch hostmaster/registrar, of the .nl namespace, charge for nameserver registration? Because in Denmark, where I live, the danish hostmasters, for the .dk namespace, charge about $90 per nameserver registration and that's rather expensive just for the ability to be authoritative for domain names/zone! A lot of american registrars, like godaddy.com, doesn't charge anything for nameserver registration besides the price of a domain name, AFAIK..

Well overhere, the nameservers are registered with the domainname and the nameservers can be changed without any charge.

overhere are the prices that participants of sidn have to pay:

http://www.domain-registry.nl/sidn_english...rges/index.html

Most of the participants ask around the 12 - 20 euro per year for registering the domain for their customers.

Hmm.. I think you misunderstood my question a bit? icon_smile.gif You see, it's one thing to own a specific domain name that is associated with some nameserver records that you easily can change whenever you want to, and a totally other thing to own your own nameservers that answers authoritative, and has delegations, for certain domain names. A lot of documents states that it's very expensive to register your own name servers, and some other documents state that this is free when the domain name is bought at places like godaddy.com, netsol.com, dotster.com and so on. I'm just a bit confused about all this? icon_razz.gif

Does someone happen to know exactly what it costs to register your own nameservers, and if this has to be done through the respective hostmasters of, for example, the gTLD namespace? That would be ICANN and NSI/Verisign.

That's the case overhere in the netherlands we don't have to register our nameservers seperately.
