Hi,
I am looking for a windows server that will be able to handle the following:
ms sql
asp
800 concurrent users
10,000 visitors a day average
What control panel should i look into getting? Would it have all these features and have the proper liscenses?
I am good with linux, but still have some to learn with windows.
Thank you for your help

well you will have to get the windows std edition because you can not run ms sql on web edition. so the amount of sites your going to host is the main thing. The ensim pro for windows only allows 20 domain licenses, so if you are going to host more then 20 domains you should choose helm, which has no domain limits. You can run ms sql and asp on both control panels, but neither comes with ms sql installed, you probably already know that.
So it is pure prefrence on what control panel you want to use. host more then 20 domains choose helm. Helm is purely a windows control panel so they have way more features then ensim at this point in time.
As for the amount of visitors that can view your site, that is based on what settings you set your server to and the power of your server.
I do not know everything but if you want more control panel features for the windows server (right now) then you should choose the helm control panel.
Hope this helps

yes, you can bring accross:
CD-ROM
Floppy
Hard Drives
Network Shares
Serial Ports
Printers
Would you care to write a how to do this so that others can save time on uploading?
I think it would be a very usefull bit of info for everyone?
Just a thought

On you remote destop connection, expland the options and look through the tabs...
You can do a variety of really cool things such as keep the username/password already save for easy logons and more...
On the local resources tab, choose what you want available on the server. See Screen Shot...
(The option for disk drives means all local drives including floppy, CD-ROM, and networked.)

Probably a dumb question . . . .
I use terminal services to connect to my server (win2000 PC locally) and it sounds like I'm missing out on a lot against remote desktop.
Is it possible to run remote desktop on Win2000 or is it an XP only thing ?

Yes, actually, you can:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/dow.../rdclientdl.asp
It was written for XP, but Microsoft says it works on Win98 and up.

Just checked and that is actually what I'm already using.
I don't see any options anywhere for bringing over drives etc so maybe that's all XP only - where do you find these options on yours so I can check if they're there (in the client connection manager basically all I have is screen size / caching / compression options).

Read Vinnie Pasetta's post above... He describes the features, and even provides a nice screen capture

The version I linked to is the same program that ships with XP SP1.

Oh, ok - the "local resources" tab doesn't exist on mine which explains why I can't do it
