Full Version: New RS Domain Registration Questions?

I was very excited about this new service, but I guess its not what I thought. I am little sad to see this so hard to use system, basically very old style that lets you do just one domain at a time.

Even though I pay 6.49/domain, but look at the list of FREE things I get such as: DNS management, domain/url pointing and forwarding, free transfers ( both in and out of my registrar), auto renewal facility for all my domains, free parking if I want but I hardly use it, secure and reliable system, free domain locking if I want it, and many more features.

Not only the FREE extras, I can also do bulk registrations, renewals, transfers, and so on.

Its just useless for people who have hundreds of domains. Its better to pay a dollar more than spend way too much time doing one domain at a time.

Do I get it all wrong, or do you guys think the same?

Thanks,

Kumar

Kumar,

Sadly, I have to agree. Aside from the great price, it's obviously not geared toward resellers.

We are not even reseller. We are developing our domains. But we have too many to use this slow system.

I hope RS soon come up with something that lets people do things quickly.

Thanks.

Since they're losing money (unless they're just making a slight profit), maybe they don't want people with 100's or 1000's of domains to switch to their registrar? They're aiming to get their servers more advertising (to new-comers), I thought.

I just grabbed a new $5 domain to check the system out, but won't be moving any critical domains over until batch processing is available and system reliability has been proven for at least a couple of months.

My guess is that RS got the basics installed to get the domain name selling started and will gradually implement more features like batch editing. Their hosting wasn't perfect either on day 1.

I regged a few domains yesterday, but i doubt that i will use RS again. The interface was rather slow and is absolutely developed for the end user with one or two domains. T

he most disturbing thing tho: RS put themself as tech contact:

Technical Contact:
Customer Service, RackShack domains@rackshack.net
2600 SW Freeway
Suite 500
Houston, Texas 77098
US
713-333-7873 Fax: 713-942-9332

I agree, the interface is awful. I registered 1 new domain and transfered 1 other and that's all I'm going to do. It's worth paying more where I'm at now just to be able to login and manage all of my domains from a single list.

I had higher hopes for this also.

Technical contact information can be changed by going to manage your domain

There you can control all of the information on just one domain or all the domains listed under that account.

We have used this for our internal domains as well and can change the information on all domains across the board.

Thank you,

I would just like to be able to remove the RS stuff from the web page. That would be good.

I too have ran one domain through to see how it works. It appears to me that you must sign in to your domain accounts individually? So every domain you have is a separate account with Rackshack?

If this is true, that needs some attention. You should be able to log into one account and see all your domains registered under your name. I'd like to see this become integrated into the members section of RS as well.

If I'm mistaken on how the domain management works.. Sorry, I'm just going on what it appears like to me.

There is an option there that you use when signing up for more domains that allows you to use your existing account information.

If you cannot do this please send us your information to domains@rackshack.net so that we can look into this further.

Thank you,

Ah.. so if I login and use the domain registration area on the first page, that will put them under my account?

That's good... Glad it wasn't the way I thought it was!

Mario, I am (I think) running several domains under one domain and, yes, I understand that changes made to that one domain will be mirrored in the others but I was wondering why there seems to be no way, when I login to that main domain, to be reminded of which domains are associated with it.

I had hoped to find some sort of list, ideally one that one allows you, if necessary, to break the association with the main domain and enter seperate details for that domain.

Cheers,

Donnacha

If in fact they are all under the same login under the domain that was initially created once you login to 'manage your domain' you will see in the interface a section at the top that says " Manage Another Domain: 64 Total " which the number that indicates a total is a hyperlink to allow you to get to the other domains as well.

Does it take long for the other domains to appear in your main interface? I pushed a couple of domains towards my main account about 24 hours ago but they don't seem to be appearing in my main interface. I've made a screenshot, I'd very much appreciate it if you could take a look and tell me if I'm actually on the correct page for what you described above:

Thanks and apologies for my cluelessness,

If I remember correctly ours took 48-72 hours before they were moved over. I will check with our contacts on Monday to find the exact time frame on this.

Yes that is the correct page btw, once the others show up there you will see the "manage other domains" at the top as well.

Thank you,
