Full Version: Plesk 6 lost the reconfigurator?

We just picked up another machine and this one has rh9 with Plesk 6.0

Running through the config this morning I changed the hostname with my usual method of editing the /etc/sysconfig/network, /etc/hosts and a hostname command but when I went to run the reconfigurator script, it's not on the machine.

This used to be required as a last step on 5.0 and lower versions to change the hostname, is it not anymore on 6.0?

There is no reconfigurator on Plesk 6. Update the psa/misc table manually.

Thanks guys. Another Plesk 6 question now...

I am used to seeing mail.mydomain.com listed as a CNAME but Plesk 6 by default adds this an an A record. What is the significance of that?

And yet another dns question

Normally my resolve.conf file looks like this when I am done adding our nameservers...

search plesk.mydomain.com mydomain.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

On this new rh9 box there is one line in the resolv.conf file...

nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

that points to RS's nameservers. Is the search line at the top not required? How about the localhost line, not required either?

as to the first question... it doesnt matter really... before you had a CNAME to an A record that all led back to the same IP... now you have just an A record... no difference in end result just the path taken...

resolv.conf should contain the dns servers you want to use... your psa machine is running BIND so you can use yourself as the dns server with 127.0.0.1, or you can use rackshacks or probably even another dns server somewhere (not reccomended)...

i would add another nameserver line above that one saying:
nameserver 127.0.0.1

this will tell the server to first use its own dns server to query then to fallback on rackshacks if yours is not available....
