Hi,

I have two Plesk 5 servers.

I have secondary DNS & secondary MX set up on server two.

However Server 1 is blocking server two from sending updates.

I am getting the message of

client 69.57.x.x#34848: zone transfer 'domain.com/IN' denied: 1 Time(s)

The IP shown is the IP of the RS server, and not that of the NS.

Although I can add this IP to named.conf - it gets overwritten by Plesk.

Any thoughts from anyone?

You have to set one server up with the dns zones...and then select slave as the zone type on the other server. Yes, you have to do this for each and every domain...if you use the plesk method.

There is another way...

There is a very old post at the plesk forums that talks about a simple little script for doing this...it does work...I use a modified version of it myself. (I run one nameserver on a prh...and then one on each of my plesk boxes...works great...with the prh being the slave nameserver).

Hi,

Thanks - but I had the salve master all set up correctly - but the IP of the other nameserver was of course different to that of the server on which it lives..

If I manually added the server IP to named.conf it worked for a short while (checked via dnsreports), but then plesk overwrote the the named.conf file, and I was left with the server 1 refusing to accept any updates from the slaves on server 2, because it didn't recognise the IP of the server.

The error was showing up inthe daily logcheck report.

ok..try this....

add a NS record pointing to the hostname of the 2nd box. That should open up that ip# as an allowed transfer...unfortunatly, this would have to be added to each domain....so I would suggest trying it on one first....then if it works...doing the others...
