Full Version: Running XML pages

I have a friend who wants to use XML on my server. However, he receives Internal Server Error every time he accesses his XML pages. Here is an example, test.xml:

/*

I know HTML but never dealt with XML. Although they look similar, I'm sure there is a fundamental difference. If anybody can help me with the problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

P.S. I tried to search forums for anything on XML but I didn't find a single post related to my issue. icon_sad.gif

Anybody?
kers
You should not have any problems with serving xml files, they are just ordinary textfiles.

"Internal Server Error" is most often shown when apache tries to execute a cgi-scripts. Perhaps you have some apache handlers installed for .xml file extention?

What does your apache error_log say ? Paste it here...

has he put them in the cgi-bin folder? XML is plain text, just put it in httpdocs.

I mistakenly posted the messege in Plesk forum while the problem account on Ensim server. It looks like everything indeed works on Plesk but doesn't work on Ensim. Thanks for all your helps, guys.

What permissions do you have? I understand that permissions shouldn't be a problem in serving HTML and XML documents but it doesn't hurt to check.
kers
It got the same permissions as all other files in my htdocs dir, read for all, write for owner.
Rich2k
Standard permissions of 644 should be fine, they are just text files (I'm assuming that your not trying to use anything like SOAP or Web Services)

It turns out that I had Tomcat enabled for the website but the Tomcat server was stopped. I solved the problem by disabling tomcat for the website. cool.gif

Hi

I cannot display xml file from server. I get an internal server error.

The file is under /var/www/html

I checked apache error_logs and nothing is dumped when I get the Internal Server Error. I have the xml file permission set to 664.

The content of the xml file is shown below

Hi

Very odd. The issue was related to Tomcat service being stopped. I started the service and is cleared the Internal Server Error.

With Tomcat stopped for sub domain I do not get an Internal server error but see the display header code below and the the xml code blocks I pasted below.

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Very odd why sub domains can show this without Tomcat running
