Please help. Could not make ftpd work. Tried stopping, restarting from WHM and SSH but I could still see the red light flashing (FAILED). Even restarted the server but no no avail. What should I do?

Make sure you have changed your hostname and that it resolves correctly. Proftpd will not start if it cannot resolve the hostname correctly.
For a QUICK TEMP FIX try using localhost as the hostname, set it in whm, then try and start ftp. If that works change the hostname back but make sure and get the dns updated.

I've already changed the hostname and edited /etc/resolv.conf 2 days ago. Restarted, stopped, started the service...still getting the same status. - FAILED

How about localhost? If that does not work
tail /var/log/messages
and see what sorta errors its generating.
