Full Version: Resolvers vs Nameservers, etc

I am setting up a Rackshack server and was trying to figure out the name server stuff here - and could not seem to communicate to support what the deal is:

I have external dns that has all my A, MX, etc records pointing to my RS server.

When cpanel on the initial walkthrough (or in the configuration area) asks for 'Resolving Servers' - this just means what dns servers i use to get out right - if i was trying to browse the web from my server?

Then there is the section that says 'manage nameserver ips' - am i supposed to put the DNS servers that are authoritative in here? Why does it need to know this? So when i set up an account it automatically creates the host?

Either way - when i try to create a new user - it fails and tells me to setup the Nameservers in the Server Setup.

Any help on this to get my box creating accounts is appreciated.

the ips for "manage nameserver ips" are IPs of yours, that you have registered to be nameservers (I'm not sure the exact registry, but your registrar will let you choose this, and you can check it manually at http://www.verisign-grs.com/cgi-bin/whois). It simply goes through each ip address you have bound, and queries whether it is defined in the WHOIS database and if so, adds it to the list.

These are only useful if you want to serve DNS for your hosted sites, from your cpanel box.
