Hi..

Wondered if it is possible to pay a one time fee..? Would be VERY interested in that.. and memory isn't so very expansive.. not these days I believe.. so... is it possible..?

Lots of people asking about this, but apparentely rackshack wants to profit off other things to make up for how cheap their servers are. As far as I know the price is $69 setup and $29 per month, no lifetime fee available. I think it would make alot more sense if they offered a one time fee of $100 or so... I can't see anyone *stupid* enough to pay $29 per month for something that can be purchased for around that. Oh well, i'm not gonna complain, i'm happy with my 256mb icon_smile.gif

I will have to agree that a monthly fee such as $29 is a little absurd for a RAM upgrade. Last I checked a 256MB PC-133 chip was going for as little as $25, but I'd pay a one-time fee for more RAM that was far above market price.

Yes, memories are pretty cheap right now. I can even get a PC2100 DDR 256MB for less than $60.00.

Memory is most important issues that affects the in server performance. If rackshack can offer a one-time setup fee for memory upgrade, I believe that all rackshack customer wil be extremely happy. :-)

Isn't there anyone from rachshack here that can answer this question..?? cause.. the servers are GREAT, and I'm more than happy with it.. but.. i really do need some more ram.. even running low on the swap mem.. so.. need it fast.. but.. I think if they set a one time fee.. then we would all be even more happy.. i think.. so please... icon_wink.gif

I second that. I'd be very comfortable with 512MB Ram, and I'd be willing to pay a setup fee of 100$, should it be. But a monthly fee is something I am not willing to add without urgent need.

I am not working at RackShack but I have to make a statement here.
RS is offering the cheapest RaQ on the net, period. They give you 300GB of traffic which is absurd cause the lowest pricing they can get on a GB of traffic is 0.8$. Multiply this with 300 and you will see that there is "something wrong".

In real life though, unless you putting warez for download, you will rarely use SUCH an amount of traffic. I can say (cause I had 512MB in a RaQ) that with double memory you can run almost double of sites, bulletin boards (like this one) means that you WILL cause more traffic AND (and that's a part noone discusses) BANDWITH (!). That means that you are able to take advantage of the 300GB... you will never get there cause a month is not long enough for that rolleyes.gif but I can tell you this one thing I like about this: PEACE OF MIND!
I know that I will NEVER be billed more then the 128$ (RaQ + RAM) cause I had that with others... and if they charge 5 an 6$ per GB... THINK!

My "10 cents"

sorry, but we do not currnetly have any plans to offer the 512mb ram upgrade for a one time fee. anything is possible, because, as our long time patrons know, we offered the 128mb - 256mb upgrade for a one time fee to our members in a special "limited time offer" email. so keep an eye on your email boxes and watch the upgrades in the members section, because things move so fast here you often know before we do.

When did rackshack sent out the '128MB-256MB' one time setup fee email? I missed it. Too bad!

You are exactly right, maybe they have this price to ward of people getting it so they are not able to load their server up more and use more bandwidth.

In regard to IP's my hosting packages I have a static IP at $3 per month to turn people away from getting one. I also require that they have justification for one.

Another way I think rackshack gives the amount of bandwidth they do is because maybe they bank on the fact that using that much bandwidth on your raq is highly unlikely.
