Hi all,

tonght my web site is going to get national tv coverage so i am expecting a large influx of traffic to the site.

i am using a duron 1ghz with 512ram and i'm worried it won't be able to handle the load, i bought a new duron xeon yesterday but i doubt it could get it online in time to take over

currently i plan to disable anything that chews server load (ie most of my mysql stuff), and i've installed phpa and mod_gzip..is there anything else I can do to reduce the imact of the load?

also what do you think the max hit rate my server could stand would be? and is there anything i can do to prevent the server crashing if it gets overloaded

thanks
chris

What sort of content? If it is db based you could move MySQL to your new box and just remotly connect to it via IP.

Yeah I'm considering doing that...but most of the stuff that the people watching tv will be interested in is static..the mysql is mainly behind the scenes so I can disable most of that.

I might try moving the database remotely if I can do it in time, but as a last resort I'll just disable it so its only serving static pages.
