You have to configure your ftp server to allow foreign addresses for FXP to work. By default this is disabled to prevent ftp bounce attacks.

Please see the following URL for ProFTPd's AllowForeignAddress directive that needs to be On for FXP to function.

http://www.proftpd.org/docs/directives/lin...ignAddress.html

--
Normally, proftpd disallows clients from using the ftp PORT command with anything other than their own address (the source address of the ftp control connection), as well as preventing the use of PORT to specify a low-numbered (< 1024) port. In either case, the client is sent an "Invalid port" error and a message is syslog'd indicating either "address mismatch" or "bounce attack". By enabling this directive, proftpd will allow clients to transmit foreign data connection addresses that do not match the client's address. This allows such tricks as permitting a client to transfer a file between two FTP servers without involving itself in the actual data connection. Generally it's considered a bad idea, security-wise, to permit this sort of thing. AllowForeignAddress only affects data connection addresses; not tcp ports. There is no way (and no valid reason) to allow a client to use a low-numbered port in its PORT command.

Edit /etc/proftpd.conf and add the following line to your global config.

tuhost
remember, ALWAYS make a backup before change anything.

1.
cp /etc/proftpd.conf /etc/proftpd.conf.backup
[enter]

2.
pico -w /etc/proftpd.conf
[enter]

3.
copy and paste "AllowForeignAddress on".
[Shift] + [insert] its used to paste.

4.
[Ctrl] + [x]
[y]
[enter]

5.
/etc/rc.d/init.d/proftpd restart
[enter]

if you break anything just:

1.
cp /etc/proftpd.conf.backup /etc/proftpd.conf
[enter]

2.
/etc/rc.d/init.d/proftpd restart
[enter]

says permission denied...??
tuhost
make sure that you login as root

once you login as admin use the command 'su' and your admin password to login as root (if its the same password).

the root user will never get a "permission denied" anywhere.

tuhost
oops sorry.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xidentd restart

shuld do the work.
and if everything else fails use :

/sbin/shutdown -r now

pretty hardcore solution, it reboots the whole server and you will suffer a few mins of downtime.
