hi, guys, well last year i had some experience with cpanel as a reseller on a virt. server, ive been using ensim 3.1 since last december, and now pro for abt a month,,iam neither here nor there on either,, my need is something a little less breakable, easier to update, with the fixes from the co... got stuck with the pro deal having to have someone else update but still has non ensim stuff,, want to get back to a straight simple prod, that i can put a fire wall up and as many security features that i can with out breaking it,,, i can learn the interface and my clients will seldom if ever see it,, ive even thought abt a straight machine and maybe webmin,, have setup one here at the office but time seems to be a drawback, straying here, plesk, how does it fit in the picture of cpanel, ensim and what i pointed out to what i was looking for..... bias not needed just straight shooting,,,,icon_biggrin.gif

thanks

It sounds like Plesk may be the right control panel for you.

Since I've been at RS, I've had servers with Plesk 2.x, Plesk 5, and Ensim 3.1. By far, the two plesk servers have been the most stable, enjoyable machines to work with.

The RPM version of Plesk 5 has been my favorite so far. The Plesk control panel has it's own set of RPM's that Plesk maintains. For everything else, you upgrade using RedHat's RPM's - apache, mysql, etc.

From my experience, Plesk is a no-frills control panel. It does exactly what you need and nothing more. Granted, all my servers are for my own use and I don't sell accounts, so I can't comment on the control panel from that point of view.

Give Plesk a shot, it might be exactly what you need.

I am getting very interested in plesk. I would never use the "enjoyable" when referring to ensim.

Ensim is NEVER a joy -- but it's the best (when it works)... Sorry, had to throw that last part in icon_biggrin.gif. Anyway, I'm not a fan of Plesk, myself; however, it seems to meet all of your criteria. It's no-frills, but it's VERY stable. It's also hard to break, and the fewest security holes are found when compared to Ensim or CPanel. If webmin isn't suiting your fancy, then Plesk may be the answer.

I'll echo AutoSear's comments. Plesk doesn't look like it has a boatload of features, but there's more there than meets the eye. The RPM install is especially nice, for the reasons he mentioned. It also avoids mucking up your system too heavily, so that adding software or manually tweaking a site is usually fairly straightforward.
