Is it possible to add a second drive to a RaQ3? I see that there is space. If yes, then can I configure it as a simple RAID or what can the second drive be used for?
Cheers,
Andre

Yes you can add a secound HD to a Raq3 or Raq4, but it some work.
If you take the cover off and look where the IDE drive is connected. You should see two rows of solder over holes 40 total.
You have to unsolder them and solder in an IDE header to attach a secound cable. Then a Y-power cable and a hard drive mounting plate. If you have a RAq3 that has the header in place then you can just mount the drive and start the reloading the OS.
I just finished updating a Raq4 to a two drive system and it's a little work but well worth it. I will post an ebook with the steps and also the the name of the company that sells a kit with the parts needed. Sorry i missed this before as I know with is an older question, but I guest better late and never.

Do you run really a RaQ3 Server or
do you ask your question for a RaQ4i server?

I have added drives on both Raq3 and Raq4.
I only have fours at this time but I will pick up another Raq3 and upgrade. I have a friend who needs one!

I think a RAQ4i also only has ONE IDE header... Not 100% sure though, 4r was designed to have 2... (duh

)
You can indeed solder a new one in, and then hook a drive onto that... Works fine... I am looking at a RAQ3i which we did that with right now...

Yes that is correct. Also note I have taken both RAq3 and Raq4 and solder in an IDE header. Then connect the new drive and restore the correct Raq3R or Raq4R OS. Also note to be safe uses two of the same model of drives. If you don't you will run into problems. I just updated an Raq4 last week it been running great.
