I currently have 2 servers: my old Ensim box (Server "A"), and my new CPanel server (server "B"). My Ensim box uses Rackshack DNS, my new Cpanel box I have setup my own DNS.

I currently have around 50 or so domains pointing to Server "A". So, with that said....

On server "B", the domain name I used to set up my own DNS is metalagesmedia.com. That domain was and is set up on Server "A" right now. How do I go about getting it to point to server "B" ? I went into the members area and looked at administering domain names, but it won't let me change the NS entries. Do I have to do that via trouble ticket? I already had the Reverse DNS set up.

Once I take care of the NS point, do I simply edit all the other fields (mail, ftp, etc..) to use the IP of my new server "B" ?

I have registered my name servers as well, reverse DNS is set, I have my Cpanel setting using the correct names, I manually checked via SSH all the pertinent files and all is well. Should this be it? Then I simply go to each domain name registrar and use my new DNS?

Any guidance on this appreciated. Getting the metalagesmedia.com to look at server "B" is my main hurdle. Thanks!

I dont quite understand what your trying to do. Your saying you have this main domain setup on (A) but you want to use its Nameservers on (B)? Is this what your trying to do. If that is true then

1) Add the nameserver records on (A) by selecting ADD ZONE RECORD under the heading DNS. Add one for NS1 and then for NS2. Edit the zone records for NS1 and NS2 and change the ips to point to box 2. Remove the www, ftp and mail records from both nameserver records. You dont need them.

2) On box 2 add the same zone records for both nameservers, ns1 and ns2 as above.

3 At you registrar point your domain name to use the above nameservers, ns1/ns2 and ask you user sites to use the above namersevers as well if their sites are to resolve to box 2.

Not quite... hm, I don't know if I am making this tougher than need be or not lol. Let's try again:

If you type in www.metalagesmedia.com it resolves to my old Ensim server. On my Ensim server i use Rackshack DNS.

I bought a new Cpanel server. I set up my own DNS using the ns1.metalagesmedia.com and ns2.metalagesmedia.com .

So, currently metalagesmedia.com resolves to my old Ensim server, how do I go about getting it to resolve to my cpanel server? I assume this is within Rackshack's internal DNS? Any help appreciated...aussie?

You need to login to your goddady account and change your nameserver information for that domain from:
NameServer 1: NS1.RACKSHACK.NET
NameServer 2: NS2.RACKSHACK.NET

to

NameServer 1: ns1.metalagesmedia.com
NameServer 2: ns2.metalagesmedia.com

Also if you have not done so you need to, in that same login at goddady, create those to nameservers and give them an IP address on your CPanel box. So you will need two different IPs. Otherwise they will not work.

Once you have made those changes give them 24 to 48 hours to trickle through the system.

Yep did all that. I wasn't sure though if there would be something within the Rackshack DNS to throw off my configuration for like mail, etc.. since the domain name was previously on another box/DNS. No need to worry about that part?

You shouldn't need to worry about that part.

How long ago did you set all of this up.

Over 48 hours?

Actually I need to go move MM.com to the new dns, thought I did it already... will update the thread once all is done for archives! Thanks!
