Hi,

I have a fairly heavy trafficed site (>10 gig/day), and have been having my server bug-out about 1/week. I am considering getting a second server as a redundent/back-up server so if one goes down the other will carry the load.

I'm pretty new at this, and had a few questions.

1) If I get a second server and "load ballance" them, if one server goes down, will the second automatically get all the traffic, or will 1/2 my visitors get sent to the down server?

2) How do you load ballance? I'm using RackShack's nameservers.

3) Will the traffic naturally be split between them, or do I need to do something special so that the primary server doesn't carry all the load untill something goes wrong.

Thanks in advance!

You could have the site on both servers and then run Round Robin DNS. You would probably be better off running your own nameservers though.
