I am looking to create a solution for businesses where they can have their sites mirrored on different servers in different data centers. I would like to see how feasible it would be to do something along the lines of Akamai (without some of the complexities).

I think that several companies would use it if priced properly.
I am looking for anyone interested in working on a project like this.

Currently doing that.

You will need the servers and a bit of DNS tweaking.

Some ISPs will arise some problems though.

If you host databases you will have to choose if database replication or something else works for you.

For high database workload you will need a message queue or transaction procedure of some kind.
