Does anyone know how I can setup a demo on PSA server admin so that prospective clients can login as demo:demo at http://demo.mydomain.com:8443 and get a demo version of plesk that doesn't really work? Thanks alot!
levovich
You can send your potential customers to demo located on Plesk website. This doesn't look less professional. Some dummies might even be more impressed because you deal "with such a big company as Plesk". icon_biggrin.gif

yeah that is a good point. I was thinking that it would be more professional to offer it on my own domain/server. Is this even possible to do?
levovich
You could create a user account will as little permissions as possible. However, I think there still would be risk that sombody can find a way to modify some real settings.
Gentle Giant
Could you not show it in a 100% frame?
levovich
Gentle Giant,

if you mean to hide some of the modification buttons beyond the limits of the frame, that's possible but doesn't protect against anybody. I still insist that having a demo version on your server is very risky and doesn't really make you look any better in customer's eyes.

I think I'll just stick to the plesk one.. sounds like a pain to get your own demo setup. Thanks
Gentle Giant
What I means is to put https://demo.plesk.com:8443/login.php3
in a 100% frame.

No reason why that frame should not be demo.youraccount.com/index.html

Or have I missed something obvious here?
levovich
I might have missed something in your idea. What is the advantage of the frame? Users are just going to navigate in the frame and make all the changes. Pages will still be loading and system scripts will still be executing.
Gentle Giant
The original user was asking about running the demo on his own site - what I am saying is if the browser window says 'demo.yourdomain.com' then customers will assume that it is on your site - especially when you direct people to demo.yourdomain.com rather than demo.plesk.com.

sorry, I didn't get what you meant. The 100% frame is a perfect idea. Just what I was looking for actually. I do still need to know one thing.

When I create the domain demo.mydomain.com, how do I make that go to a certain place on my server? Does the domain work as a completely new one I.E. now I would FTP to demo.mydomain.com? Thanks alot!
Gentle Giant
Just create it as a regular account (without the www option) - then for hosting select 100% frame - and direct that to the demo URL at plesk.

I would also on the page you link from explain what the login is.

I am not sure what the page is called under plesk for the 100% frame - it might be htm or html - I am only saying this as to control the size the window opens up at you might need to specify the actual index page - but not sure havn't tried it.
jaredweb
I didn't know about that option.. thanks alot!
