Full Version: Name based hosting IP not the same as server IP

I just got a new server with Plesk 5 and I'm guessing it's been recycled as the IP shown in the Plesk interface to associate with name based hosting is not the same as the IP address of my machine. Also, /etc/hosts has plesk.rackshack.net listed with a third/different IP address.

To fix this, can I change the IP address (and host name at the same time?) in hosts then run the Plesk reconfigurator?

Thanks in advance
Paul

I would first email rackshack support and tell them the situation. Technically you should start off with one system IP and everything points to that, then if you needed them you would request more and bind them.

To change your hostname, NightHawk has created a script. Follow these direction if you don't already know how to run reconfigurator.

1) login to your server via ssh
2) su -
3) wget http://ezsm.net/hostname.sh
5) sh hostname.sh
6) answer the questions
7) done.

Hope this helps. RS support should be able to tell you the deal. You might want to just check what IP(s) are binded to your server in the first place. There should just be one to start with. cool.gif

Thanks Jared, that's great :-)

For stuff like this is emailing support the way to go rather than raising a trouble ticket?

either way.. when you open a support ticket and get a response in email, you can respond to that and it will update the ticket without having to log back in to RS member area. I would just give their 1800 number a call. That's what I did when I got the wrong set of IPs from them, or so I thought. There's no reason for the IPs that you have there to be there. Better to solve it now, then to get a bunch of people on it and then have more downtime icon_smile.gif Good luck!
