I just got cPanel installed on my server. Ever since, I am getting warning emails from my box. Here is the text:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
The hostname (server1.guitartabs.com) resolves to . It should resolve to 216.127.80.73. Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as the 'A' entry in zone file for the domain.

Some are all of these problems can be caused by
/etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check this file if you
believe everything else is correct.

You may be able to
automaticly correct this problem by using the ' Add an A entry for your
hostname ' under ' Dns Functions ' in your Web Host Manager

I have done everything I can to fix this. The hostname is set to server1.guitartabs.com and an 'A' entry has been made in the zone file. I did this through cPanel and confirmed on my own that the information was correct in /etc/hosts (I don't know how to confirm the 'A' entry outside of cPanel; I don't really understand DNS well at all).

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas for a fix? I will greatly appreciate any advice that helps me resolve this issue. Thanks!

Did you transfer guitartabs.com to RS? Or hosting it with your own registrar? If it's with your own registrar, you need to A name it to your IP, or point it to RS' nameservers.

GuitarTabs.com is transferred to Rackshack. I just upgraded to cPanel from Ensim and had no DNS issues with Ensim, so I'm fairly certain that the problem lies somewhere in the local configuration of the server, something that would have changed when my server was re-imaged. Either that, or a problem that Ensim never noticed and a problem that didn't actually cause a problem outside of cPanel yelling at me.

Go to www.ipaddress.net and enter your domain name. See if it resolves to your IP. If not, something is not set up correctly.

Another thing is to try and delete it from your Zone, then add it again.

It says that no reverse lookup is configured when I put in the IP address, and it does not not get the domain name.

However, when I enter the domain name (guitartabs.com), it gets the IP address just fine.

Looks like I need to configure reverse lookup. Any advice on how to do this? Thanks.

According to this you are not running your own nameservers.

How I am searching:
Searching for A record for server1.guitartabs.com at c.root-servers.net: Got referral to B.GTLD-SERVERS.NET. [took 3838 ms]
Searching for A record for server1.guitartabs.com at B.GTLD-SERVERS.NET.: Got referral to NS1.RACKSHACK.NET. [took 4092 ms]
Searching for A record for server1.guitartabs.com at NS1.RACKSHACK.NET.: Reports server1.guitartabs.com. [took 4812 ms]

Yeah, I got confused, I guess. RS support helped me figure it out.

I had somehow convinced myself that adding an 'A' entry to my own DNS zone would work even though my domain name doesn't use my server for DNS, it uses RS's DNS servers. So I had to put the entry into their servers, it works fine now.

Thanks for the help, sorry for the confusion.

No problem, hmm i though RS didnt support DNS issues. Has something changed?
