I am getting the following email bounce errors intermittently.
Some mails go through others don't.

The ones that dont get this error:

email@address.com R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp: SMTP error
from remote mailer after MAIL FROM:
SIZE=1708: host.xxx.net [xxx.x.xxx.xx]: 553
5.1.8 ... Domain of
sender address domainname@my.serverdomain.com does not exist.

What should I check?

Just an update for anyone else that may have this problem.

I needed to add an A record for my HOSTNAME.

I added it in my RS members area that was created when I requested A records for my NAMESERVERS.

You may also need to add DNS Zone in your CPanel WHM.

I am having a similar problem with intermittent email failures and need clarification.

When you say "add DNS Zone," do you mean a zone for your HOSTNAME (for example, name.domain.com) or a zone for something else?

My errors say "SMTP error
from remote mailer after MAIL FROM" but not "R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp."

Thx for any clarification.

I am having a very serious problem along these same lines.

Messages that are sent from my first server (ensim) to my second server) often are getting this error in server one's logs:

Apr 23 15:12:41 server1 sendmail[25580]: h3NJCY725544: to=jon@greenolivetree.net, delay=00:00:07, xdelay=00:00:02, mailer=esmtp, pri=300426, relay=greenolivetree.net. [207.44.194.54], dsn=5.1.1, stat=User unknown

If any Guru has information relating to this, it would be greatly appreciated!

I mean a zone to the HOSTNAME (host.domain.com)
I already had zones for NAMESERVERS (ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com.)
There was a zone setup for my HOSTNAME but it needed to be modified.

After I modified the DNS Zone for my HOSTNAME on the server and in my DNS RS membership area it did not work right away. It took 2 to 5 hour to work properly.

A quick way to check if your set up correctly is to type into your browser window your HOSTNAME http://host.domain.com
If your A record is set up properly you should get your Apache test page.
When mine was not working right I got a "page can not be display" error.

This is an excellent test that will surely help someone else.

arg, still getting these email notices... and the pop-up box when I login to WHM (despite the fact that I've added the A record).

Anyone with any additional insite?

Speaking about your nameservers. I think there is mass confusion here. I gather from your msg that you are running your own nameservers? Then why do you need to add an (A) record for nameservers at RS?

Also, the (A) record for you hostname should be on your own box. Likewise all the necessary records for nameservers should also be on your box, including the (A) record. No need to add anything to Rackshack DNS.

We use mass quantities of Nameservers given to our resellers. They register their own nameserver with the ip we give them. We never modify DNS at Rackshack at all. In fact, we have multiple different nameservers registered to the same ip address. That way you dont have to give each resellers an extra 2 ip's. Just give them the same ip as your main nameserver ips and let them register the names they want. Add those nameserver to DNS and thats it! They all work flawlessly. icon_biggrin.gif
