Hi,

I got one of the cPanel Duron servers. I've had some issues with the server so far. Today, I received an email in my inbox from cPanel's smartcheck function:

RackShack, however, said they ran quite a few tests on the cpu, the memory, and the hard drive and reported that nothing is wrong with the server.

I love cPanel now that I've gotten it to work properly (after 2 restores). However, the Duron can't handle things very well. Sites that put a load of .3 on my P4, translate to a load of 1-3 on the Duron. On the Duron, ftp, ssh, and httpd hang periodically - terminating the ssh connection or making http unreachable. Then, sporadically, they'll come back. I'm also paranoid about the hard drive.

I'm thinking I have two options. I could ditch my Duron server, upgrade my P4 to cPanel, and lose the $99 I paid for the Duron. Or I could remain with my cheaper ($99 compared to $149) Duron server. Maybe a load of 3 isn't so high and these problems won't happen anymore.

Any advice?

The load average has gone up to 5. It peaks at 10 sometimes. I've tweaked settings, installed php accelerator, etc. I'm thinking I should ditch the Duron - especially because of the hd and it hanging here and there.

I get those emails all the time from the server, but mind are for bind, httpd not started etc, but they all seem to be running fine..

So far I am less than impressed with Cpanel, but like all things it might just take some getting used to.. does seem like there are quite a few bugs in it so I will let this box go for a while and see how it does and keep my Ensim boxes Ensim for now.

I can see what you mean by buggy, but once I fixed the few known bugs on my machine, everything seems to work fine - except for the fact that my physical server isn't too good. I was on Ensim before as well. I'm sticking with cPanel, I just don't know about this server.
