First of all THANK YOU for SCREWING me over !!! mad.gif

I am waiting for over a month now since you presented the AMD 2 Package on your site (AMD with 1GB RAM - PLESK - 99$/month - 499$ setup). I contacted you dozens of times and alll I got is "wait, soon".

NOW it is available (of course NOONE notified me as I had asked) and what must I see.... 169$ / month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mad.gif

WTF ????? mad.gif

Thank you for being the worst host EVER.... only CI HOST beats you in beeing worse mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

You can delete me from this board now if you do not have the guts to take honest criticism! mad.gif

BTW: I am NOT a newbie! I am a PAYING customer for a YEAR now! mad.gif

Inforcer,
Every time RS came up with a new package, Headsurfer sent out an email. There were quite a few emails with "you'd better act quickly, there will only be 40 (or however many) of these boxes available starting at 8am tomorrow". If you've been a paying customer for a year, then you've gotten these emails as well - perhaps you're not checking the email your billing goes to?

You can't say that RS screwed you over. It's your responsibility to check the RS web site every day if you're waiting for a particular package; and regular checking of these forums will clue you in to when a package becomes available as well. RS has thousands of potential customers... if they were to email every one of them each time they offered a new package (like CI Host does and quite a few other unsavory hosts I've dealt with), they'd be accused of spamming.

Now, on the issue of the $169... look what you get. Yes, the price is higher than what was initially proposed (but there were boxes that went out at that price), but you get TWO 40GB HDD's rather than just one.
You can also lower your cost a bit by going with Ensim rather than Plesk, and get an unlimited domain license to go with it.

Honestly now... if your box has 2 40GB HDD's and a gig of ram, you can more than make up for that $169 hosting fee.

I'd advise that you go ahead and go with one of the new whiteboxes at the current price, or check the RS site, this forum, and your email *every day* to see if HeadSurfer has posted a quick special. Sometimes he even posts a special on eBay as well.

Happy New Year!

CarrieB

we are not and have never been responsible for calling people when new servers are available. if someone offered to lnotify you it was out of the kindness in their heart and on their free time. also, rackshack has always reserved to right to change prices, and without notification or approval. considering what you get for the price i dont think the price change was unreasonable at all. you get a balzing fast 1 GHZ server with 1 GIG of ram and TWO 40 GIG hdds!
TFArchive
yeah, I would agree James.

When I heard about your LCRP servers that HS was thinking about offering I asked one of your salesmen if he could reserve one and he said no, but he will try and inform me when they are available. That is really all you can ask. When the LCRP servers were originally going to be released, I checked the RS site every few hours, because I knew that they would be popular and limited quantity. That is really all you can do, RS is hot right now, and people are grabbing these servers like hot cakes.

People will always complain about the prices of servers, even though there is no other company on the net that can match RS's prices.

RS offers the best value for servers/bandwidth on the net, and they are still trying to get better value packages out there. The $99 servers are an absolute steal.

Headsurfer: Don't change a thing, your prices are fine, prehaps even too low. One thing I think you should do is price comparisons with your competitors (if you don't already), if they are charging $400/month for a dual 1 gig, 1 gig RAM, 100GB transfers (for example), you should charge $300 for same with 300GB transfers, this way you make more money and your clients are still getting an awesome deal. I don't want to see your great company going bankrupt because your margins were too low and it slowly eat away at your capital, like so many other companies. icon_sad.gif

Stick to your guns HS, you will survive.

BTW, Happy New Year HS and RS staff icon_smile.gif

Woah - How can someone get so upset over $70 more per month for an already too great to be system!?!

Doesn't sound like a customer that RS would miss anyways...

I had an 125$/month offer for an Athlon (!) 1.2 GHz with 300GB bandwith allowance... and I DECLINED it cause I wanted to stay with RS cause I don't change cooperations like I change my underwear...

As to the people here that replied, who give me the impression that they just want to defend RS actions in order to "gain points here", I can only say that you are highly unprofessional and surely not running a web hosting business.
It's not "just" 70$ more, its 70% (!!!) more. So all my calculations and already prepared offers are not only for the bin but cannot be made at all.

I was planning on 2-4 servers (depending on my success) in the next months. NOW, I will not take a single one.

Ah and one more thing: DO NOT dare to PM me about that 125$/month offer, cause you will... I am NOT going to tell you ANYTHING!

Regards
acer2k
I know about the $125/month offer. It comes with a LOT more than the server you were going to buy from rackshack. Rackshack charges $239 for the exact same server I can get for $125/month, $200 setup...Rackshack charges like $700 setup. YIKES! Plus this other company offers UNLIMITED free ips, $.60/extra GB bandwidth, owns a NOC on each side of the US, and has multiple OC48's, multiple DS3's, and no telling what else icon_wink.gif
Bobbi
I know about that offer as well ... but that 300 GB bandwidth coming with it isn't the same what RS offers, it's a 95th percentage billing ... the rest seems fine, though first reports on how they actually perform still remain to be seen.

On the other hand, I think some people here got too used to the low prices. I can't really remember them promising that these servers (with the more expensive plesk license!) will go out for 99$ as well ... and having complained about the memory upgrade prices before, I'm now happy that I chose RS...

Oh yeah ...

I use the company that has the $125/month offer. Their service is VERY VERY VERY good. Since the move, Rackshack has had MAJOR problems. They still rufuse that more problems still exist, but they do icon_sad.gif Still some power and connection problems icon_sad.gif *sniff* icon_sad.gif

WIth the $125 company, Support is fast, connections are awesome, and prices are awesome icon_smile.gif I havent had any problems what so ever with my server. I have had it for around a week or two.
Inforcer
... RS bills on 95th %ile too, I could be wrong though... correct me if I am icon_wink.gif

@Bobbi: You don't have to look up to me icon_biggrin.gif - It was not meant this way. The reason why I said this was due to my correct business attitude. Naming the company in question would be like leading potential RS customers away. And as this is the RS forum this would be a crappy thing to do. icon_wink.gif I did not post to steal Roberts customers but to really express my anger cause I really wanted to stick with RS!

P.S. I did not even mention that by now I have a server with them too. Everything acer said before complies to my experience with them also. One other thing is that those ppl. are VERY flexible as to building me even a custom server (dual board or so) if I want to... cool.gif
WebSales_James
first off let me assure everyone that NOONE is "gaining points" here. we have customers with over 15 servers and even THEY have not gotten a discounted setup fee or a free month of service or ANY special treatment. secondly we DONOT calculate bandwidth on the 95% rule. what you actually use is what is calculated. they are not estimated values.
AhmedF
RS is not 95th percentile ... best part about 95th percentile is that you could use up only 100 gb and then be slapped with overuse. Well done.

As for you inforcer, look at your original post. Very professional.

Have a nice day.

Ok, accepted... thx for the info cause I really didn't know for sure. Got on the phone with the "other company" and they offer 150GB actual traffic (50GB more then before)/300GB 95%ile.

ANYWAY, this post/thread was NOT to compare hosting companies but to express my anger about a 70% price raise, when before I had been promised over phone, IRC, ICQ and email that "the AMD 2 package will be availble soon" and made calculations and plans.

If it had been 110-120$ per month (20% raise) I would have accepted it + just lowered my profit in the plans... what the hell right? But 70%..... K.O. icon_sad.gif

This offer HAS BEEN on your site, you PROMISED me I would be one of the first to get it and now... you know the rest.
I don't think I am so wrong here... YOU (RS) are the one breaking their promises, not me.

Regards
WebSales_James
we have the servers now as promised. the prices changed, but rackshack has always reserved the right to change their prices. i understand your complaint, but because we simply put something on the website with the heading coming soon, or not available, does not mean that when it is available it will be at that price, and it is my no means a promise. all we can do is relay the information we have the best we can. changes that are made are well above our heads.
noti
i did email RS asking about the AMD 1GB server as well around mid december last year, as i was planning to sign-up early january ... the Q & A are :-

> 1. When will the AMD server with 1GB RAM available?
We do not have an exact ETA, but it won't be before 12/16

> 2. Is it likely that the price for the AMD server goes up on early
January?
There is a good chance that it will, but anyone who gets one before hand should not have a price increase, these accounts "lock in" the price

due the the answer from Q2, i signed-up for the 512ram server immediately after reading the email. i knew that the price for 1gb server would be a lot higher than $99+upgrade and $499 setup if they release another batch of 1GB server ... thus, maybe there are some miscommunication or lack of info in Inforcer case.

Inforcer, you can sign-up for the $99 package and then order a RAM upgrade (dont know weather the previous 1gb offer comes with 2 hd) ... although the setup and upgrade do cost a little more, you may still make some profit from the hosting business ... just my 2 cents tough.

by the way, i am not defending anyone or any company.
Inforcer
@ James: Sure, I do understand that. I know that you are also depending on suppliers which might change their pricing so you cannot hold up an offer.
My suggestion is that you should NOT put prices on your page anymore unless you are 100% sure that it is going to be... get's people upset, you know...

@noti: I really couldn't care less about the Harddisks... icon_biggrin.gif
How much is the RAM upgrade (512MB to 1GB)?
WebSales_James
you can find the upgrade princing here: http://www.rackshack.net/services/index.asp

I think your wasting your time here... Rackshack says in their TOS that they reserve the right to change the price.

Don't lie and say your opportunity for the other server is up, here ya go:
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s...&threadid=29883

One thing that I've found at the little hosts trying to compete with rackshack is 1) their sales "department" is great 2) their support "department" is great for a little while - just unreachable when it's important. With Rackshack they've based their business plan around quantity and therfore they don't have to cut corners like the other places.

Good luck with your decision...

Of course it is up. Sales and support were/are great. The folks are VERY flexible as to custom server configurations. The speed is awesome and the fact that they are coding/finishing their own control panel really raises sympathy. I love entrepreneurism!

With steady traffic ( I HAVE steady traffic ) the 95%ile does not "punish" you. I get a seperate account on another server for IRCd so my server does not go down when DOSed and unlimited free IPs, so I can sell hosting accounts with dedicated IPs (here I have to pay 20$ setup fee per one IP). rolleyes.gif

And best of all, for 150$ one time fee I get another 1GB RAM totalling 2GB RAM (!!!), and as the AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz (and not 1GHz DURON) is powerful enough to handle so much RAM, my mainly and excessive MySQL usage is in good hands. icon_biggrin.gif

And all that for 125$/month and 150$ setup. Both numbers cheaper AND a better machine... excuse me but WHAT MORE COULD I ASK FOR??? PLEASE... correct me if you feel that I am wrong!

If RS could compete this offer though I would DEFINITELY stay here!

After all that you said, (yelled/screamed) i don't quite understand why it's "defiently" (100%). I mean you already called them lousy, and said that the other company offers a lot more for just 25 extra. You change your mood often.

...yes because they gave me a 70% raise on a PROMISED price. I did not say that they are lousy as to their hosting capabilities which I now value for over a year as a customer.

If you go buy something somewhere and they don't have it on stock (dress or something in a shop) and you come bacl later when they say they have it and parallel announce to you that it's "just" 70% more then last time... you WILL use some serious F-wording on them!

They didn't promise you specifically the price. Their systems are great and really good and it's better to think of it as 70$ more rather then 70%. Same thing as me going into a store and saying hmm bubble gum 0.05$ or a different gum for 0.50$. That's a 1000% increase. These systems are great and their systems for $169 really are worth it.

I've been a paying customer for 6 months and have only received one email during the last 6 months from Headsurfer... and I can't remember exactly what it was, but I read posts all the time about the 'emails' everyone received but never get them. And the email is in on an outside system that I use daily and average 75 emails a day on and I don't think I've missed them all... just not getting sent to me for some reason. So this could be happening to Inforcer as well.

I didn't know when the new systems were up either until I just checked the forums.

Yep exactly. I gave RS my provider email which is checked over 20 times a day. Since one year with them I got 3 emails. I never got the email som eppl. in this thread are talking about. If I did, I would have signed up mad.gif
