Now that cpanel has come to RS, is there a monthly fee for cpanel on top of the monthly for the server???? I know that was a big problem before that I had was the monthly for cpanel. Can someone please confirm this. thanks!

My understanding is it is built into the price of the server just like with Plesk and Ensim.

Cajun:
In general, Cpanel servers will command a $20 premium over our standard pricing.
external licenses will not be available
Cpanel servers will also carry a small premium on teh setup fee to cover the additional work that we have to do in our process as well as out costs in license management
however, those premiums will be reduced to $10 from now through the billing cycle that ends in December 2003
at that time, our pricing will revert to the $20 premium

So, what you're saying in mathematical terms:
$99 Ensim = $119 Cpanel . Hmmmmm.... Is it really worth it????

Ensim Pro is priced even more per month, so cPanel is cheaper. but both are more expensive than ensim 3.1
The prices are listed on the RS website.. btw

Well, that's assuming you're going to be one of the few that decides to stick with Ensim 3.1 after 12/31/03. Patches will become scarce, ditto forum support. So you'll end up hiring Gpan full time.

The upgrade to pro will cost you a fortune, especially with 10 servers, so that's out of the question.
My feeling is that Cpanel will attract more clients, which will easily offset the additional cost. Plus, RS will not be offering Ensim 3.1 servers after 12/31. I don't see much else in the way of cost effective options at this time, unless you want to switch to Plesk.

I've looked but can't find a way to move my existing customers to cpanel from ensim without using ftp and just ftp'ing the content of their sites over. Is there an easier way??? What about downtime??

there's a script that is supposed to import the sites for you into a cpanel server.... not seen it, but others have commented on that

I would to know about this script and what some other users have commented on regarding MySQL DBs and such. I am already sold on the move to cPanel now I just want to make sure I can easily get switched into cPanel for my current sites, get Ensim off there, and have minimal downtime. Any help greatly appreciated!

I have only used the network transfer from one box to another, its fairly easy to transfer sites across machines. I am interested in this ensim / cpanel "upgrade" script and if i find anything, ill post it here.

If I'm reading this right (obviously no details are really available on the RS site about it)...
Does this mean you cannot get a Plain RedHat system and put your own external license on it? Why would this restriction matter, and how would it be enforced? I like to set up Cpanel boxes from scratch, to get the system set up the way I like (partitions, redhat updates, etc.) then put cpanel on that. Thanks for your input!

external licenses will not be available FROM rackshack...meaning they will not supply external licenses. You can have your own external license, from another cpanel reseller like us...just RS only provides internal licenses

Thanks Brett. That's what I hoped to hear.
