Am I correct in saying that sites using https will still work even without a secure cert? A security error will appear, but it should still still work right?

Well no domains on one of my PSA boxes do. I try to access a domain using https and it just gives me the default "Cannot find server" error. SSL is on in Plesk, but it won't work and no errors appear in any logs.

Can anyone help me please?

1) Do you have the files in "httpdocs" or "httpsdocs", each has its own root.

2) Typing "https://" and not having an SSL cert will not provide any security.

By default however, all sites in Plesk come with a generic/mismatched SSL cert which means...

Using "https" will pop up a warning since the url will not match the url on the cert, however, since you ARE using A cert, it will still "work".

Yes files exist in both httpdocs and httpsdocs. When I try to access any file via the https protocol, I get a "page cannot be displayed error". No security window appears.

What do you see in the logs?

Also, if you are using IE, go to tools, internet options, and un-check Show Friendly HTTP error messages. This should give you a bit more info.

Do you have a firewall on the server?

If so make sure that port 443 is open.
joelmoss
nothing appears in the logs and no firewall is running.

Did you try generating a self-signed cert in the control panel to see if that would help ?
joelmoss
do you mean create a self-signed cert for the particular domain?
this error is happenning with all domain names. it seems to me that ssl is not working at all for some reason.

Hi there,

Did you solve the problem because I am getting the same error.
