Hello,

I wondered if you can give me hints about me dns/nameserver settings... it works the way it is, but I don't think it is set up the way it should have been... :

first I set up ns1.domain.com --> XXX. XX. XXX. 017
then ns2.domain.com --> XXX. XX. XXX. 018

XXX. XX. XXX. 001 = server name based IP

on ns1.domain.com dns it says:

ns1. domain. com. NS ns. ns1. domain. com.
ns. ns1. domain. com. A XXX. XX. XXX. 017
webmail. ns1. domain. com. A XXX. XX. XXX. 017
ns1. domain. com. A XXX. XX. XXX. 001
ftp. ns1. domain. com. CNAME ns1. domain. com.
mail. ns1. domain. com. CNAME ns1. domain. com.
ns1. domain. com. MX 10 mail. ns1. domain. com.
XXX. XX. XXX. 001/24 PTR ns1. domain. com.

and the same settings for ns2.domain.com

on the server dns template it says:
. NS ns1. domain. com.
. NS ns2. domain. com.
. A
webmail. . A
ftp. . CNAME .
mail. . CNAME .
. MX 10 mail. .

could you please tell me if this is wrong?

I shouldn't enable physical hosting on the ns domains?

I don't believe you have to create those domains in PSA. We don't have them like that and all works well. You will have to change the DNS for domain.com to reflect the nameservers though. Ours is set as follows:

QUOTE
domain. net.   NS   ns2. domain. net.
domain. net.   NS   ns1. domain. net.
 mail. domain. net.   A   207.xx.xx.x1
 webmail. domain. net.   A   207.xx.xx.x1
 ns1. domain. net.   A   207.xx.xx.x1
 ns2. domain. net.   A   207.xx.xx.x2
 domain. net.   A   207.xx.xx.x1
ftp. domain. net.   CNAME   domain. net.
www. domain. net.   CNAME   domain. net.
domain. net.   MX 10    mail. domain. net.
 207. xx.xx.x1/24   PTR   domain. net.

When you're done try http://www.dnsreport.com to see if you pass the test! icon_smile.gif

I do believe LadyHawk's how-to covers what you need:
