Full Version: plesk installed but not working

Joan Garnet
Hi,
I've installed all dependencies needed for a Plesk installation.
I run the script and installed it,
but it didn't work as I go to
http://IPaddress:8443
and a "not found" page appears.

Maybe it has something to do with my network config...

[root@plain etc]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
My_IP_address ensim.rackshack.net ensim

[root@plain etc]# cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME="plain.rackshack.net"
GATEWAY="IP_address"
GATEWAYDEV="eth0"
FORWARD_IPV4="yes"

Any help will be very appreciate.
ThanX !
jaume
To set your hostname both entries for hostname in /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network must coincide:

[root@secure etc]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
My_IP_address secure.mydomain.com secure

[root@secure etc]# cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME="secure.mydomain.com"
GATEWAY="IP_address"
GATEWAYDEV="eth0"
FORWARD_IPV4="yes"

once modified these 2 files:

hostname secure.mydomain.com

Then your hostname should be correct. ... don't know if that is the cause for your plesk not working.
NightHawk
try restarting it...

service psa restart

see what errors if any that gives....

if it gives no errors..then your psa should be running..
Joan Garnet
Ok,
so those hostnames can be whatever, right?
even if you don't have a real domain name ( I just have my IP address )

i.e
[admin@plain etc]$ cat hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
My_IP_address server1.mydomain.com server1

[admin@plain etc]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME="server1.mydomain.com"
GATEWAY="IP_address"
GATEWAYDEV="eth0"
FORWARD_IPV4="yes"

Anyway..
it didn't work icon_sad.gif

I read something about Plesk installation....

QUOTE
A "clean install" means that you have installed the OS and that your server can communicate with other computers via the internet (network connectivity has been established). If you perform a full server install minus the www services (Apache web server), then you should be fine.

Does it mean that if Apache was already installed Plesk won't be successfully installed ??

If so... I'm done because I did have Apache installed.
Any suggestions ??

ThanX !

ok, first..your hostname needs to be reall subdomain of a domain name that you own..becuase it needs to be able to resolve to your server...which means you need at the least an A record in the dns for it.

If you are doing a standard install of plesk..it wont' install if apache, bind, qmail, etc are installed....

If you are doing a rpm install of plesk (as you should be)...then you have to pre-install those daemons...(there is a whole list in the release notes of what you need to pre-install ..they call them dependices).

If plesk installed...then you have the dependices installed...it wouldn't install otherwise.

ok..look in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ is there a psa there???
(if you find it..run it from there)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/psa restart

if not..your plesk didn't install properly...

(btw is this a standard or a rpm psa install?)
Joan Garnet
Ok,
my plesk didn't install properly :confused:
Then I've tried to do it again:

but I've learn many things trying to fix it icon_biggrin.gif

After you deinstalled plesk..did you make sure that all psa components were removed???

easy way to do this:

updatedb && locate psa ...
then rm anything you find..including directories... (excpet your backups of course).
Joan Garnet
There are a lot of items to delete !!
Would it work ??

-----------------------------------------------------------

my_list='locate psa'
for this_item in $my_list
do
rm -r this_item
done

-----------------------------------------------------------

Then I have to leave this two files when executing the script...
/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-27.7.x/drivers/acpi/parser/psargs.c
/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-27.7.x/drivers/char/hp_psaux.c
I dunno how to do it...

Never programmed a shell script before... it's a bit like php ...
but I need it for sure, because there are hundreds of files to delete.

emm....I wouldn't do that...

I would only remove the ones that are definatly plesk...

you might run into some thing that you don't want to remove ... like those drivers you have listed above...
