*Here is the fix*

Login via shell, gain root access (su -), then type:

vi /etc/hosts
(change file accordingly)
vi /etc/sysconfig/network
(change file accordingly)
/sbin/reboot

The system will reboot and a few minutes later you'll be all set to go!

-------------original problem below-----------

Hi,

I ordered an Ensim server today! Everything has gone great thus far... BUT, I'm wondering how I get rid of this little title that shows up in all the appliances....

The title for all the control panels shows:
ensim.rackshack.net : Appliance Administrator 3.0.0-50 (admin)

I've changed the servername and that's visible in the admin panel (so I know I did it right)...

Please help!*Here is the fix*

set the hostname of your server.
i think you should be able to use netconf to do this.
(you might need to restart webppliance with
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/webppliance restart" if you do)

I've already done this by doing:

#root@xxxxxxx: hostname [newhostname]

Thanks though...
Myce
I did the following to change my hostname:

vi /etc/hosts
(change file accordingly)
vi /etc/sysconfig/network
(change file accordingly)
/sbin/reboot

When the server came back up, and I went into the Appliance Administrator, everything looked good, but none of my domains were accessible via the browser (Cannot find server or DNS Error) and I could't get into MySql Administration Tool either. So, I went back in and changed the hostname back to ensim.rackshack.net and the domains still don't work and neither does MySql!

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this?

Thanks,
Myce

I've got a box with Ensim and I tried it manually via editing the files like Brandon says:

vi /etc/hosts
(change file accordingly)
vi /etc/sysconfig/network
(change file accordingly)

Rebooted:

/sbin/reboot

And it wasn't still working. So I asked a tech in the chat if he could try to change my hostname to my domain.
He used Linuxconf to change hostname and it messed Webppliance and Mysql. He tried to fix it without success for more than 2 hours following some instructions from this post on Ensim's website:

http://www.ensim.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000477.html

Finally the server was Restored.

With the server restored he tried again (but manually) and this time it worked.
Then when trying to setup a site it kicked back errors. the tech looked up the errors on google and it said that either the postmaster was not started or the you where trying to save to the incorrect hostname. He changed the hostname back to ensim.rackshack.net and was able to add the site just fine.

My server is working right now but " ensim.rackshack.net " remains in my box as server name and the tech told me to leave it there:(

So be careful what you touch rolleyes.gif

Just some info I though could be of interest to others.

Thanks for the "heads-up," Jaume. I just put in a request to get my server restored. Who did you talk to in chat? I'd like to make him aware of my problem too so that they know this is adversely affecting others besides you. My server failed on a manual restart of /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd (tech support suggestion) because the "NameVirtualHost" was blanked out (no IP or port specified!), so I fixed that and restarted, but then it gave me a failure to resolve hostname on ensim.rackshack.net. At this point, I decided to throw in the towel and request a restore since I have 20 domains in the toilet right now because of this problem!

If anyone comes up with a "fool-proof" procedure for changing the hostname on Ensim servers, please be sure and post it here! For the time being, EVERYONE is advised to NOT change ensim.rackshack.net to anything else until such a foolproof procedure is available.
mike
Mean while ensim.rackshack.net is resolving to many name servers. Come on Rackshack, your install for Ensim is flawed and needs to be addressed ASAP. We are all losing money and patience!

I'd be happy to change them for people... just send me an email...

We know how to make the hostname changes, but we need procedures for working around the resulting Ensim corruptions. Do you have such procedures? If so, why not post for everyone to see (unless you're selling sysadmin services).

I don't or I would...

What kind of phpmyadmin errors do you get?? I just finished changing a customers and had absolutely no Ensim issues? Perhalps the issue is that the hostname you changed it to is not in DNS?
Myce
Patrick,

I couldn't get into MySql/PhpMyAdmin at all. It may have been related to my domain name not resolving, but when I changed it back to ensim.rackshack.net, it should have worked (in theory), but it didn't. I was getting all kinds of wierd errors with none of my virtual domains working. After I get a procedure in place so I can backup my server, I'll see if you can help me try again to change the name. Maybe it was a fluke, but it totally hosed up my server the first time around (even though everything "looked" good in Ensim).
