Water Dude
I set up my first site with the ensim interface and on my Sites listing page it shows a different IP than the Server IP. Is this correct.

Next - I tried to install portsentry and found that I don't have a compiler (gcc).

This should be fine since it seems that you have added a new ip-based site. When you add name-based sites, the sites listing should designate those sites as such. If you type in the IP-address of the new site you added then it should show you a welcome page.

That's how it has worked for me!
Water Dude
I have entered my third support ticket on this issue. As a result of my last ticket the IP shown in the site list is that of another hosting companies. The Site does not resolve to the IP provided.
hoopscity
If you do not have extra ip addresses given to you then you should be adding name-based sites instead of ip-based sites.

you may need to delete the site you created, and re-create
by adding it as a name-based site.
Water Dude
I deleted ny test sites got this error

diskquota - Disable service
(WARNING):Group quota is not enabled on the server. Not configuring quota for the site. Please fix your server's quota problem and edit the site again if you want to configure quota for the site

Created new name based site it still shows IP of old Company - Not a RackShack IP. Got these errors

diskquota - Write service configuration
Field Disk Quota (WARNING): Disk quota is either not enabled or not supported for virtual domain filesystems.
diskquota - Enable service
(WARNING):Group quota is not enabled on the server. Not configuring quota for the site. Please fix your server's quota problem and edit the site again if you want to configure quota for the site

hmmm... it seems like the IP address of the server may be wrong?
I'm pretty sure when the ensim server adds a new name-based site that it pulls the ip address of the server. Did you try looking
at your network settings page under the Appliance link to see
what IP Address it reports there?

As for the disk quota errors, I'm not sure what those warning are.
Water Dude
Same as the one RackShack provided.

The ones on the name based hosts is different.

I don't think this installation copy went well.

I have the same trouble with my ensim machine.

for the creaction of a name based new site
IP is set as 64.246.0.2 which is the IP for some one else machine.

my machine's IP being 64.246.6.78.

I've just submitted Ticket now.

I have the same question, I just got my server. And I added a IP based site because it will be the primary site on the server. Then I added a name based site under the main site's domain (whatever.tfarchive2.net) and it gives me the IP as 64.246.6.2, which is totally different from my server's IP.

Did I do it in the right order?

I have the AMD II server with Ensim.

Thanks

I can't get RackShack support to help. They think that the IP on the server is dependent on the DNS setting. Haven't a clue why.

The Trouble Ticket you entered into the Members Section of RackShack has
been modified. The following notes have been made to your ticket.
------------------------
Sir,

As I have explained the server''s hostname replaces the IP address when you try to use the Ensim interface. If you have pointed a sub-domain at your server you must change the hostname of the server to match that. Once this is done and resolving we can fix any remaining issues.
------------------------
*************************

This is what I told them:
******************
The server hostname was ensim.rackshack.net now it shows www.mydomain.com. If what you are telling me is that Ensim resolves the Hostname to an IP to establish the IP's for my sites then cancel my order and refund my money as this server is not usable. No web server should be dependent on DNS to establish IP's. It should only use the IP's assigned to it. Which is the way Apache and Red Hat 7.1 work when properly configured.
*******************

But I did find this and forward it to them:

*************************
On page 67 of the Ensim 2.4 Documentation found here
http://www.ensim.com/pdf/webppliancels/app...ppuserguide.pdf (I can not find Documentation for 3.0). Version 2.4 has a site default screen where an IP is entered - either I do not have access to this or it doesn't exist in 3.0. If I had access I would change this to the RackShack IP to solve my problem.
**********************

I think Rackshack is using ServerXChange which requires a password to access the Documentation and can change this we are locked out.

On another note my Hostname has mysteriously changed from Ensim.RackShack.net to the one I submitted.

Spend $469 to troubleshoot a NEW server Priceless.

I spent time on the phone with Mark just before the whatever happened.

His said that they had a support request into ENSIM.

My server still does not work.
TFArchive
I deleted all my accounts I made, and created new name based ones, and they all have the correct IP address. My domain hasn't proprogated yet, so I can't test them with a browser.
Water Dude
You shouldn't be able to do that I was told:

************************************
The Trouble Ticket you entered into the Members Section of RackShack has
been modified. The following notes have been made to your ticket.
------------------------
ensim will not function properly via IP address. The customer needs to point his domain name to the server and that should fix the problem. Currently the invalid IP does nto reside anywhere on the server.
------------------------
***********************************

Since Mark has worked on my server this afternoon I have been unable to access it. Customer Service emailed me that there are no refunds and tech support said that they would call me back.

Friday Night 9:30 pm here and I need to go have a beer.

Rackshack support has been informed of the issue and has a resolution.

You can also access the ensim support area and knowledge base for WEBppliance 3.0, a resolution to this issue has been posted.
You can get to them with this link:
http://www.ensim.com/support/wpkb/3.html

All of the documentation for WEBppliance 3.0 is available on the rackshack support page. Both PDF and fully searchable/indexed help files are available.

The server I was given after the restore does not have 2 hard drives set up on it.

Hey all,

this issue is still going on on the newly set up machines. I'm having the problem too now.

Does anyone know exactly what to do ? I opened a support ticket but didn't receive any reply today. But it does mean that a new server can't be used, indeed...

Thanks;

-Carl
Water Dude
Look at this thread on the ensim site. The techs here crashed my server fixing it.

Hey Water Dude !

Thanks, man, this one works ! The right address is now being shown in the site-lists.

But I still have another problem, right from the beginning. When, for example, I create a vhost, I should be able to see it at http://myIP/~admin1 or whichever number. But I get a 404-not found every time. Whew... icon_wink.gif

Ciao,

-Carl
Water Dude
It has to be

http://full.host.name/~mydomain.ext

(I don't seem to need ~www.mydomain.ext)

works for me
mango
Kewl, Mike !

So replacing the IP address with the hostname (once propagated) should do it ? Whew... can't wait ! icon_wink.gif

Bye,

Carl
