Hi I just subscribed to RS. I was given this server ip and later I requested for 4 more ip of which I want to use and as my name server. And I want to host mydomain.net on

I setup this way :

Server DNS
ns1. . NS ns1. mydomain. net.
ns2. . NS ns2. mydomain. net.
ns1. . A
ns2. . A
. A
webmail. . A
ftp. . CNAME .
mail. . CNAME .
. MX 10 mail. .
/24 PTR .

I think I did it wrongly right? Should it be this way instead?

ns1. . NS ns1. mydomain. net.
ns2. . NS ns2. mydomain. net.
ns1. . A
ns2. . A
. A
webmail. . A
ftp. . CNAME .
mail. . CNAME .
. MX 10 mail. .
/24 PTR .

notice the,
. A
webmail. . A

should be
. A
webmail. . A

or
. A
webmail. . A

right?

So where do I placed my in the server DNS?

And as for my Domain DNS, I should use this :

ns1. . NS ns1. mydomain. net.
ns2. . NS ns2. mydomain. net.
ns1. . A
ns2. . A
. A
webmail. . A
ftp. . CNAME .
mail. . CNAME .
. MX 10 mail. .
/24 PTR .

correct?

Me pretty new to DNS setup so anyone can help? icon_biggrin.gif

by the way how come when I ping ns1.mydomain.net and ns2.mydomain.net it says unknown host? Is it because I setup my nameserver wongly in the server DNS? icon_sad.gif

ok..for starters...your webmail must allways be on the name-based hosting ip#...regardless what ip# the site is using...

(namebased hosting ip# is the one you selected when you ran the plesk reconfigurator)

If your nameservers are not working...my first question woudl be ...did you register the nameservers to the ip's at your domain registar? If you didn't go do that...and then give them 24 to 72 hours to propegate.
