Full Version: Let us try to get control over our rampant quoting

I just read a reply to a 37 line post that quoted the entire message and then made a one sentence comment. This rampant quoting has become common. It has to add to server response times and it definitely adds to my download and read times.

Please join me in using smart quoting, to quote just enough of a message to focus our comment or so people know which previous post we are replying to. Or, in many cases not quote at all. Image a phone conversation where a person always repeats the comments of the other before making a new statement. (Of course I have no idea why you should image this).

Thanks for any consideration you may give this request.

HA.

Well one reason I find quoting important, is so that they know whose statement you are responding to, not quite like a phone conversation, because there are many people speaking.

I absolutely agree. That is a primary reason for quoting. It is also a great opportunity to quote just enough to convey that messasge, which you may already do.

It is best when it is 7 or 7 levels deep, which vB seems to not allow.

Do you like vBulletin 3's threaded view? Where it forces you to click the arrow next to the post you are replying to before you can use the quick reply box... In a way I find it good because it makes it easier to follow a complicated thread, but it also makes it more time consuming to post a quick reply and also looks more cluttered and complex to new forum users...

Doh! Don't mention vBulletin 3! It's driving me crazy waiting on it! icon_razz.gif
