hey RS-Staff and all other users!

I am thinking about purchasing a dedicated server (AMD 1 ghz duron package) and planning to do some business with it. so far so good... icon_wink.gif

I thought about offering shell-hosting (vhosts,bouncers,...) and webspacepackages (four different ones: S,M,L,XL). Is it easy to get enough ips for vhosts etc?

Is there anything you can suggest / recommend, on wut things I should consider? Mainly I am interested in your experience you made, and if you share some of your knowledge, I would be thankful.

Security; especially since you're going to be offering shell accounts.

That and making sure your clients stay within RS's AUP (i.e. not running IRCd's that are linked to any network, for example)

I don't think its a good idea to run the server as a shell server as well as a webhost server especailly when it will be serving both IRC and WWW. I think server will tend to lag.

RS Doesn't allocate IP's for vanity hosts or vhosts.

uhm, how comes? so, its impossible to rent a server and run a shellserver with several vhosts?

It's arin regulations. Not to mention, Shell Servers attract DDoS which could cripple the RS network. If you want to run a risky server like that, you should put it on a highly firewalled connection like FOONet.

Rackshack do not allocate as in they do not give them free for vhosts right ? How bout purchasing it from them instead ?
