Hi,

Just got my new server from rs, logged in then came acroos the first page, Postinstall Configuration Page.

Fill in the requested information into the appropriate input fields. This information is required for Server Administrator functioning.

It says in the 2 boxes

IP-address for name-based hosting: xxx.xx.xxx.x (my ip address)

Full hostname: plesk.rackshack.net (this is in here by default)

If i change the hostname to a name i want will this be ok or will it mess it up.

Newbee question i know.

thanks

search in the howtos for change hostname or something. is written by aussie I think. That works perfect. Did it on my own plesk server!

It is best to rename your server to what you prefer first, and then enter the plesk control panel to enter you server name.

If you enter the wrong server name in the Plesk control panel you will have to run the reconfigurator script.

I'm sure I'm missing something but: the above posts refer to a How-to which is entirely about ensim not Plesk.
Does this means they are that similar. I have a new 1.5mb ram Plesk server and I can't even find the darned thing with the references i've been given.
I'm willing to search if necessary but is there a fundamental list of necessary essentials to do: this is plesk 5.0 and the manual is 53 pages of "You can".
I'd rather know the essentials and then experiment and refine.
The DNS is written by Epstein on vitamins I'm afraid.
Is there no English english explanation of why do it and then how.icon_sad.gif
Thanks

Maybe you should consider hiring an adminstrator, to handle all this...

try this thread...

http://forum.rackshack.net/showthread.php?...hlight=hostname

I posted a simple step by step a few posts down in that one cool.gif

That will get through the hostname....then your next step (actually should have been your first) is security....

Thanks for the replies - but, I can't find the server yet. So, maybe I have a mythical one with plugs hanging out. The advice e-mail from apparent installation doesn't say what version of Plesk is running: wherever it has gone.
My concern was that these replies and tips seem to apply to older plesk installs and tips named as solutions for Plesk immediately started talking about Ensim ?
If these guys who've had hassle equally don't know what they've had installed on a box - I'm in trouble land.
If Plesk doesn't work so well - then why is everyone raving about it ? Lacking info on what version I could have as of 11th feb 2003 I don't know what manual to download to start reading.
I can't find a smilie for stuffed either...
Thanks anyway.

plesk runs great.....this RS forum does have many more post for ensim then plesk..that is true. And yes, alot of the post are on the 2.5.* series of plesk...as RS just recently brought plesk back at the 5.0.* series...

But, never fear...the plesk forum at http://forum.plesk.com has more then you could ask for...which is one of the reasons why the plesk posts over here are so slim. The ensim forum at ensim.com on the other hand is very slim..which is why there are so many ensim posts here.

I have been running plesk since first started with plesk back in the 2.0.* series of plesk...and never had any major problems....(just some minor ones that me or my customers have cuased).

Thanks for the Plesk forum reference.
I suppose I can assume I would have Plesk 5.0 as it was only bought yesterday.
when I find the darned thing that is ? i found it difficult to know which manual to download as the contract advice from RS doesn't mention version just the machine details.
thanks Tony

np ..your box will probably be plesk 5.0.4 ...(btw..there is a 5.0.5 patch..just release yesterday..that you will want to apply.)...your box will also be a rpm install not a standard install.

Hope that helps.
