What is the rcd that is loaded and running on the new Plesk boxes? My /var/log/messages is flooded today with downloads this thing has made. Does anyone know what it's doing?
hansm

Thanks, hansm. I removed it from my server. Up2date works fine and I like being in control of my server's updates.

RCD does not automatically install updates. It just downloads a list of available updates for the subscribed channels.

Just run "chkconfig rcd off; /etc/rc.d/init.d/rcd/stop" as root to disable rcd from automatically starting and to stop the current daemon.

[root@plesk root]# chkconfig rcd off; /etc/rc.d/init.d/rcd stop
Stopping rcd: [ OK ]

If you would like more information on using rcd for updates "man rc".

redcarpet is a good option for keeping your box updated.....it is actually IMHO better then up2date....but like RS-Greg posted..it is simple to shut off.... off course..you could just rpm -e it off your server completly if you don't want it.

rpm -e rcd-1.0.1-1.ximian
