I currently have a domain on a dedicated RAQ. I am looking at moving it to an Intel system with Plesk. I need a period of testing the new server before cutting over to it. Is there a way to test on the new server and have my internal URLs resolved to the test server and not to my production server?

I am undecided. Do you have something of value to add to either post?

Setup your dialup/broadband configuration to use your servers DNS rather than your ISP's DNS servers. Providing the test server has proper DNS setup for the domains your computer will resolve the DNS to the test server and not the production server.

If you are using a Windows machine, you can modify the hosts file. Do a file search for hosts (no .extension)
Add a line to the file similar to the following:
216.40.0.0 www.testdomain.com
The domain will resolve to the ip listed, overriding your isp's dns.

AutoSear: I have windows XP and I can't find any file called host or hosts. Does XP use this kind of file and if it does, what is it called? Thanks.
