Full Version: 'Automated' setup scripts - give me a break!

Plesk should be shot for labeling this thing 'automated'. Sure, I guess the whole thing could be 'automated', if you could pass all th command line arguements somehow.

For those of you who don't know, setting up a new account under Plesk manually is a chore. If you thought the Cobalt Raq was a pain, wait until you see Plesk. It's not that it's confusing, just time consuming. At least we have utilities like Autosetup for the Raq, which make account setup a breeze.

Enter Plesk's 'automated setup' scripts. Well, I guess I expected too much. At the least I was hoping I could install the scripts and the setup would involve less steps. The only thing these scripts offer is a command line interface. Sure, if you can pass all the arguments (name, user name, address, etc...) to the script, I guess it could be automated, but I'm not quite there yet.

Just a note, installer beware...these are a little misleading by name. These scripts are executed from a Telnet or SSH window, not via browser.

Saves us pulling out the remaining strands of hair over the weekend.

If you have any joy in the auto setup quest keep us informed(as we will to you if we find the godly scripts ourselves)

(Is it just me or is this whole plesk thing like an indy jones flick)

Boomer & capnroger:

These are extremely powerfull tools - if you knew how to use them.

If they lock them down to just the specific stuff you want (should they wipe your noses as well?), the rest of us do not get to enjoy the real power they provide to us.

It's just that the tools sounded a little more like they'd be easier used. And yeah the studying at sysadmin school again is being done(on the hoof at the moment sadly).

no need to be too cross with is guys. We just thought plesk being the gui that it is, it'd have been a little bitty better.

nuff said really

Really! No need to hit us over the head about this. Why not take the time to post how you've implemented these scripts?

Without actually seeing the utility, you should probably be able to create a form that asks for all that info, then sends it to a PHP script you create, that perhaps validates (if you don't do it w/ JavaScript) the data, then executes the CLI setup script. It shouldn't be that hard to implement if you know a bit about PHP...
