Last night, I pop into the Bargain Basement and see a nice shiny p4 1.7ghz 512mb ram ensim 40gb hdd 400gb transfer for $1 setup and $99/month.

Is it just me, or is this one hell of a deal, considering they're listed on the list all servers page w/ $49 setup and $129/month? Or is there something I'm missing?

Luck you is right icon_smile.gif. I had one of those at one time, and it was costing me either $119 or $129, I don't remember which. Setup was about $99 as well.

Oh and as you can guess, I'm renting said server now. icon_smile.gif

I saw one of those Compaq P3 40GB Ensim boxes in it a couple of hours ago.. didn't think it would last long at $119 with a $1 setup.

I put the bargain basement as my homepage, so I could check it often. I saw that deal in there and jumped on it. icon_smile.gif

Here's the direct link for the bargain basement: http://www.rackshack.net/english/bargain.asp

perldork
Hi,

I have a set of perl modules and example programs in the works that scrape the Rackshack server price lists and bargain lists and return back each bargain/server as a perl object ... this will make it easy to make programs that run N minutes and email X, update a web site page, etc, with the current list of prices/current bargains.

I can't afford more than the one server I have, but I have seen many people complaining about missing sales etc .. when I am finished with it I will post it in the add-on category. I was thinking about trying to sell it to RS, but then I thought "if they wanted this they would have done it already" ... so, then I have considered selling it at a very low price to Ensim people ... as it did take me 15-20 hours to write ... on the one hand there are people who just loath anyone trying to make money off of Ensim value added services .. on the other hand I have gotten a lot of benefit out of free stuff from these forums, so I am not sure which way to go ..

I am leaning towards free and then charge money for custom development using this API or installation help etc. ..

The API is actually done, I am just working on a few examples that use it .. so ... I will post it within the next month or two .. perhaps people like you on this thread will find it useful .. hopefully you will icon_smile.gif

That's why the DL320's are so expensive for? They're really stable?

How are the Compaq P4 1.7Ghz? I'd like to know before I am plaqued with problems... hehe icon_wink.gif

The Compaq DL320's are real servers, thats prolly why they are more $$

Most the other servers are desktops (towers) (except the RaQ4's)

My celery has been good to me.. i dunno about the other compaqs tho.. never had one.

I have had them all and still have different ones. All of them are very stable if you don't have any hardware probs and configured it properly. Even my AthlonXP 1900 is still going strong under heavy load.

But the DL320's are the ones that I have to take less care of:). Yes .. they are real servers ... but sometimes I wish they had more CPU cool.gif

That makes sense. I was looking around to see what made the DL320s special. I didn't think about the fact that the other 'servers' were just desktops setup as servers.
Thanks guys. icon_smile.gif

The DL320's are SUPER STABLE!! I'm not saying this just because I work for Compaq (part of the New HP) but they really are. I have one at home and it's SWEET!! I work in R&D (research and development) and it's just a sweeeeet server!
