Full Version: Plain RH Boxes Coming soon?

We've been waiting for a couple/few weeks now for one of the Celeron based "plain Red Hat 7.2" machines to come available (the third item in the list at http://www.rackshack.net/english/all.asp). When there was one a week or so ago, we tried to get it only for it to disappear out from under us during registration. We check the site daily, but nothing new yet.

Then... tonight, there are 24 (24?!?) of the Celeron "Ensim" servers available and not one plain Red Hat. C'mon... now the $1 setup is going to be going away and customer support says that we can't get on a waiting list or anything.

What's the scoop?

You got to wait for the odd ball servers it seems to get a plain RH. I got a xp1700 plain today.

I got lucky and snaged one up last week. Galeon browser crashed 4 times while trying to get it. Had to use Konquerer.
So if you really want that server I wouldnt recomend using Galeon to do the ordering lol.

To make this even more lame, customer service tells me that they might not ever put more plain Red Hat boxes up. As she put it, "Maybe if someone who has one cancels their service." It was that cut-and-dried for her and she didn't seem interested in seeing what could be done about it.

I guess I don't get it... based on comments on this bulletin board, it's clear that there's still plenty of demand out there for some of the plain RH boxes -- but no response from anyone at rackshack at all.

In the meantime, the Ensim boxes are flying up there by the dozens. How hard would it be to configure a handful of those as plain RH?

Time to start looking elsewhere?

Snagged right out from under me again. Get all the way through the process to learn that "The server you chose is not available"... again. mad.gif

Feel like I'm scrounging for scraps around here.

I saw that for a while. I was even trying to find this post to say something.

HeadSurfer has just said that new plain RedHat Linux boxes will be coming in the next day or two:

By popular demand, there will be several new server configuration options available by tomorrow .. maybe even tonight. These will include more memory options, hard drive configurations, and yes plain Red Hat installs.

I was able to snag one of the plain RH Celeron boxes about mid-morning today. Whew! Finally. I kept waiting for the page that says, "Sorry... you're too slow" to come up.

Glad to hear that HS says there are more coming. There's definitely the demand for them and it's been like a mirage for us the last couple/few weeks.

Thanks... I had the URL for the "all servers" page on a shortcut key, so I could refresh it regularly.

I'm glad to have the server... but might experience a little server envy with these new boxes coming out this afternoon! icon_biggrin.gif
