Failed to start FTP server : You cannot start the server daemon when in inetd mode.

I cant figure out where i screwed up any help is sure appreciated

How did you set up FTP?. It just means that the ftp server (proftpd usually) is set up to run when needed - and isn't running otherwise thru inetd.

If its set up via inetd; as long as you can connect to FTP after installing the RPM it is working correctly

inetd starts the server when needed.

If you are wanting to run proftpd as standalone, then you need to also download proftpd-standalone...rpm file. Check rpmfind.net.
