Haven't used it in a while but "joe" is another basic erditor that a lot of people seem to like. It's on the RedHat CD, or you can probably find it through rpmfind.net.

Some version of Vi is also on almost every *nix-ish system imaginable, while joe, pico, emacs, etc are not guaranteed to be. So, it would be advantageous to at least learn a few basic commands incase you ever need it.

vi is very powerful.
emacs is another powerful editor that's fairly popular.
nano is easy to use like pico, but more powerful. Although nowhere near as powerful as vi and emacs.
If you're going to work on UNIX a lot, you may wish to invest a few hours, and go through the vi or emacs tutorial. A few hours is all you need to become reasonably proficient in using it. (At first, you may find it helpful to write down common keystrokes on a piece of paper in front of you.)
