Full Version: FTP account suddenly not working...
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > Plesk

The other day Plesk mysteriously deleted the admin@localhost user from the mysql user table.... with help from a thread on the Plesk forum, and some support from RS, I got that ironed out and was able to access plesk again.

However - now there's a problem leftover that wasn't there before. The FTP login for one of my sites no longer works (worked just moments before the aformentioned problem, so I know that's what caused it). I've tried changing the password, but that didn't help.

I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking maybe taking a look at the contents of whichever file Plesk stores the FTP usernames/passwords in might be helpful, but I don't have the slightest clue where that is located.

Anyhow, if anyone can tell me that, or else provide some additional suggestions, that would be excellent! icon_biggrin.gif

Peace, and thanks!

joy.

I'm so glad my new replacement box is Ensim. No one "ever" answers my plesk questions.

I still need this box to work for another few weeks though. Can't anyone help me with this?

Thanks... I hope icon_wink.gif

Using the admin MySQL account, browse (using Webmin or phpMyAdmin?) through the hosting table in the psa database. You should be able to find the username and passwords there.

You can also look at the log file /var/log/secure to see what it reports for the FTP login failure. "Incorrect password" and "no such user found" are a couple of the messages you may find in there.

Also, try forum.plesk.com for a more active community of Plesk users (although most of the discussions are now for version 5.0...). icon_smile.gif

Thanks exactly what I was lookin for icon_biggrin.gif
Though unfortunately not the answer - everything in there looks a.o.k.

However.... I took your advice and checked in /var/log/secure and low and behold I found this line:
Sep 29 21:15:06 www proftpd[25008]: www.absolutecross.com (xx-xx-xx-xxx-xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]) - USER tutorialforums (Login failed): User in /etc/ftpusers.

And so I opened /etc/ftpusers and what do ya know, in there are only 2 lines:
tutorialforums
tutorialforums

That's it.

So is it safe for me to delete those lines (and hopefully fix the problem)?

Thanks!

oh and yeah I posted at the plesk forum a bit earlier than here also... over there there's nothing but a single view, no replies hehe... I wasn't expecting much though - I've posted there before and never get much help.

I've never touched ftpusers myself, but I would assume that removing those two lines should fix your problem. I don't know how accounts end up in ftpusers, but there's a note on /etc/ftpusers at http://www.proftpd.org/docs/directives/lin...seFtpUsers.html
Ales
Well, they end up in there after you disable the domain in Plesk... That's how Plesk disables ftp access.

ah

well plesk wouldnt "undisable" it hehe... I did try that - i turned the site on and off a few times and it didnt help

But oh well... all fixed... just had to delete those lines from ftpusers.

Thanks all!

Peace.
