Hi, I'm trying to set up my webmail on Outlook Express.

I've got it receiving email but I don't think that my outgoing smtp is correct.

I have both ingoing and outgoing set up webmail.domain.net

In Outlook Express, open up the properties of that Mail account. There should be five tabs in the Properties menu: General, Servers, Connection, Security, and Advanced.

Select the "Servers" tab. At the bottom, be sure to place a checkmark (enable) in the "My server requires authentication" box and use the same settings as your incoming mail server. Click Apply and/or OK, then you are done.

Creator,

Thank you very much. I have done as you suggested, but still can not get my mail to send...

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... mail is coming in but not going out.. :/

Well, I'll be....

Sorry Jenn. icon_sad.gif

The solution provided has worked for Ensim users, but to be honest, I didn't think Plesk made a difference. I don't use Plesk at all.

Don't worry, someone around here will know. icon_smile.gif

ok, I am a little confused...you say webmail...do you mean webmail.yourdomain.com ....??...if so, you dont' need outlook express for that...

if you mean just email...and you are having smtp problems...the first place to check would be your isp. A very very common problem (espically with alot of dialup isp's), is that they do not allow you to use port 25 (smtp) for any other mailserver then thiers. If that is the case, you will have to set your smtp settings in outlook to the ones provided by your isp. (and complain loudly to them, if you want it to work differently)

thanks creator. icon_smile.gif I'm hoping that someone knows what I'm doing wrong.

night, yes I mean with webmail. I prefer not to use IMP, as I have used it before and has been nothing but problems for me. If I can set up Outlook Express I'll be much happier in my familiar surroundings...

This is the error I keep receiving:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'webmaster@domain.com'. Subject 'Re: Hey.', Account: 'webmail.domain.net', Server: 'webmail.domain.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Jenn,
You don't use outlook for webmail. You goto http://webmail.yourdomain.com .

I belive you are talking pop3 and smtp, not webmail. And from your error message, it looks like you have your mail settings, in your plesk cp, set to pop authentication. What this means is that you have to check your email before your send email. If you login to your plesk cp, hit server, then mail, you will see the settings. Pop authentication , is the one I recommend. Once you verify that setting, just check your mail (pop) before you try to send mail (smtp).

Hope that helps cool.gif

Jenn,

I believe Plesk default comes with relay, you allowable domain list are located at a file call rctphosts, maybe at /var/qmail/* directory, do a locate for exact location.

The rcpthosts something drive me frustrating coz' it only allows incoming and outgoing emails in or to the domains which are listed in rctphosts file. Maybe the better solution would be:

Login your PSA administrator as admin
Enter "Server" tab
Click "Mail" under Services Properties
Select "Authorization is required" Click on "SMTP". Leave blank for POP3.

And follow what Creator has said, change the "My Server Requires Authentication" field, as well as all your clients.

Leave the rcpthosts as defaul, if you have modified it, make sure edit the file and list all your current domains into the file.

domain_1.com
domain_2.com

Hope that works.
Jenn
all working, thank you very much. icon_smile.gif
