i have a client who sends out a mass email to clients who have signed up for it.

everyone is BCC'd and i notice that the email gets stuck in the mail que everytime they send one out. i know at least some of the emails are being delivered because i am on the list.

here is my question.

when i click on the id number for the email in question and look at the long list of email addresses i notice that some have a "YY" before the address, some have a "YN" before the address and some have a "NN" before the address (all without the quotation marks.

can someone tell me what these mean? I checked the whm site and the the exim site but didn't see any information on this issue.

thanks in advance,
ww

I wasn't able to find any documentation in regards to the NN case, but the YY one is specified here:

Exim rejects incoming SMTP calls from any host that matches host_reject. For example:

host_reject = ! xxx.yy.zz : *.yy.zz : ! *.zz

rejects mail from any host outside the zz domain, and all hosts in the yy.zz domain, except for xx.yy.zz.
Original Document

Of course, this is in regards to incoming mail only, from what I can see, and could be outdated documentation, like having been a newer version released since the one the guide is in regards to.

Assuming you're running cPanel 11 (or late version of 10,) take a look at this:
WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings: What are the "Number of minutes between mail server queue runs (default is 60)" and "The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited)" set to?

this was definately an outgoing mail situation....i just checked the que again and the email is not there anymore....maybe it was just taking a long time to process since there were so many email addresses.

I do have "The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited)" to "0"

thanks,
ww

Hmmm, weird stuff. You might want to set those values to something that will accommodate your customer(s) sending from that box rather than unlimited, incase a spammer should get hold of it.

If you figure out what was going on, please let me know in this thread - I'm curious!
