Can this game be added to cortex? Will it?
Timeline?
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/armedass...=result;title;1By: Atari, Bohemia Int.
Genre: Modern First-Person Shooter
Release Date: May 4, 2007
Players: 1-32; 32 Online
http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=armaMy community (texasteamplayers.com) has a lot of interest in this game it seems, and we'd be interested as well if it was in cortex.
What is the process, or means in which some games are added to cortex? Is there any community involvement in that?
As well......mods like BF2pro and natural selection are there......but why not project reality for BF2?
either way......ArmA is essentially the sequel to Operation Flashpoint. It's a real sim-addicts game, ultra realistic weapons, vehicles, scenarios.
Texas ...TeamPlayers... would certainly appreciate having this in cortex.

You'd have to talk to Kevin about Project Reality.
Like I said in the other thread, I'll take a look into this one. As far as what gets added, generally it's been the big guns and what has been requested on IRC or the forums I believe, provided the game/mod itself doesn't require things like GFX cards or sound cards or the like..
Kevin may have had a list of things to add but with everything else to do, tickets and such, they get delayed sometimes.

Exactly, if Kevin had a list or plan, it went with him and so Zach is starting from scratch on his own to do list.

And I get with kevin or zach or whoever calls the shots..... how?
The game's been out for a while. And considering some fringe games like Red Orchestra or FEAR made it in there, it'd be nice to see this as well.
Is there any customer involvement....especially big customers........for picking and choosing games?
What level of support do we need to call on to get this to happen?

so it this our request? There's several others here....but if there is something more official....something that we as paying customers need to ask you, as the host, to fulfill.......where do I do that?
orbit support tickets? (I really hope not)
Consider this Texas TeamPlayers request.......all 2000+ of us.

Just bug me on IRC or posting here works.. tickets aren't necessary
Of course I also ask for patience in adding things. I have to finish up what I had in line first, acquire a copy of the game for testing, and then I can release it to you.

Consider this me bugging you.
There's a lot of fringe games loaded into cortex.....Doom III, FEAR, older games......This one just came out, and there's already a significant number of servers running from other companies.
It's business, not personal..... but if the other guy's got it, but Insomnia doesn't.......doesn't make much sense to pay the premiums we pay to be hosted by The Planet.
Would there be a timeline for this? We will try remotely managing this, however without cortex, resource history graphs, and the automation that cortex provides with patches, starts/stops, and server config managing.......
Please, put this on your list. Also, please examine your list for games that have no following whatsoever, that you are expending resources on.
If it doesn't sell game servers, what's the point, right?
http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=arma = Armed Assault.....431 active servers at 5pm CST.
http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=doom3 = doom III with 71 active servers.
http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=ro = Red Orchestra with 58 active servers.
http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=quake4 = Quake 4 with 634 servers.
Looking at the game stats of each one (the global player and server usage), Armed Assault is one of the few games out with increasing player counts and total server counts.
Please.........include this in your short list of things to do.

I'm loyal to the planet, because we've come to depend on the level of control we get over our dedicated servers.
Please......if there is a short list of things to do in cortex......Take that list.....erase whatever is in the #2 or #3 spot, and put Arma.....twice.
Thanks.

Art of War Central server for TTP is up and running.
That means money we could be spending at The Planet, we are now having to spend somewhere else.
We will drop our AoWC server the INSTANT The Planet gets this loaded into cortex. We left AoWC long ago for major reasons....and those reasons still exist today.

No, I do not sleep at work. I'm setting up a new work machine so I will be able to take a look at ArmA tonight.
I'm a little delayed due to some personal things and a lack of a second Cortex man, but I'll update later tonight with some info.
I should be back to a more solid schedule here tonight/tomorrow. Thanks for being patient everyone

We are running a 20 man ArmA on Art of War Central.
here is our config, we have optimized to remove lag, improve server FPS, and reduce the "jumpiness" that AI soliders appear to have when they are walking/running.

we're betting we can still increase our bandwidth and error send settings. We're going to try this.

MaxSizeGuaranteed=1024;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=64;
MinBandwidth=8192000;
MaxBandwidth=16348000;
MinErrorToSend=0.005;
A good way to see how the server is going is to use "#monitor 10" when you are logged in as an admin, so that you can get server FPS and bandwidth info streamed into the chat every 10 seconds.
Most of the ArmA configs on the net are loosely based on recommendations from Operation Flashpoint guys and wiki's.......which are horribly outdated given todays server standards and capabilities.
I'm wondering if we can take minerrortsend down to .0025 or .001. This seems to be like "tic rate" or updates/second, pretty much, since it reduces the amount of jumpiness in the AI's.
...bigdog...
Jul 6 2007, 09:16 AM
if you're looking for some beta testers for installation and performance, TTP is ready to go. You can let me know here, or contact us through our client support tickets, call the server owner, whatever.
On any given night, we can get at least 6-10 in-game, get a good co-op going, which will stress CPU and RAM usage.

Jul 10 2007, 12:28 AM
Was hoping to get an answer from bigdog there on his configs, I'd like to perhaps start tweaking Cortex default cvar values. I've heard some complaints at what some of them are so I figured I might delve into the communities and grab some good configuration sets. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself but since I'm also going to start pumping out new features and eventually Cortex 2, one of the features was going to be league "plugins" for games. Required maps and configs for league play to be installed after an instance is created is something I'd like to add. No promises on that happening soon, but I'm preparing for it as I go along.
I'm changing how ArmA will be handled a little I think, I didn't like what it was doing sometimes. I don't want to give a real deadline because I already hit some bumps with other immediate issues, aside from adding new game support, that slowed me down. Look for it this week, possibly with Insurgency depending on how buggy it wants to be. I know some people have got servers running already, but me adding it would take out the hassle at least.
I was also asked about Company of Heroes.. thoughts, anyone?

Yea, it's an RTS so A. it doesn't have dedicated server and B. It doesn't really need a dedicated server.

How did those updated tweaks work out?
they're fine. Less choppiness in the AI's when they are partrolling and running around. It certainly isn't lagging out or reaching any maxes in resources.
Of course...it's on an AoWC box, and their control panel doesn't give us resource graphs.
but...the configs are stable. You can even get on our server if you wish....check it out.
http://www.game-monitor.com/GameServer/69.12.25.15:2302/As for Insurgency......I don't see how cortex can support such a release, given that it's going to be patched on a weekly basis looking at the way the devs there handle things.
I'd wait for a full, non-beta, more stable release before putting a lot of time into insurgency (though.....it's very simply to implement....just a command line change and a folder addition).

I'm sorry this is taking so long. I have been very busy with one thing after another thrown my way, so unfortunately I have not had much time to add new things to Cortex lately, such as ArmA. My time has been consumed with support issues, keeping internal services running, etc. We're working on getting me some help, but in the mean time I appreciate everyone's patience.
As for the status on ArmA, there are still the few kinks that existed a little while ago that I need to work out before I push it to you guys. Again, I appreciate your patience.

Hey Zack, Can you give us an update to ArmA I want to another server to just run ArmA but It need to be in Cortex before I can get the new box.
I looked around and GSPs are charing $4-$5/slot to host this game.
Is this thing resource intensive server side? Just curious if they are raping people or not.

You are so right Doc. We are paying $3.00 a slot ay Wolf for a very crappy server. We tried to put ArmA on an unranked Conroe a few month age just before it was released in the US. The game ran fine but the only way to control it was through the config file and we didn't have anyone that knew what they were doing. We had 2 evo.ArmA, FH, CSS 100tic and a PR for BF2 running on that box. ArmA ran great, a lot better that we have now. Just as soon as Zac can it in Cortex we will be putting another Box just to run ArmA.

CPU usage, especially on cooperative maps, will be high. depending on the map (and not teh player count) since some maps have a LOT of AI going on.
We're running ours through AoWC (which we don't like much....not enough control or information).
