Full Version: cPanel and PHP5 -- what's the story?

I wanted to use some new PHP libraries that work with PHP5. Can I upgrade to PHP5 on a cPanel system? If so, how? Is it supported now? Is it a good idea? Right now I'm running 4.4.1 and only want to move to 5 if it is expected to be relatively painless.

I'm running PHP 5.1.2 on my cPanel box now. So far no problems.

To upgrade to PHP 5.x just open up WHM, and go to the Apache Update page, select the PHP 5 version you want and any other options, and build.

And if you are using an application that requires Zend, you need to update that as well to a version that works with PHP 5.x.

Anyone know if will cPanel run PHP4 and PHP5 in parallel? I *think* it will but I don't have a dev box to test on at the moment icon_smile.gif

This method on the Cpanel Forums works well for us:
