Full Version: how can I turn urchin off for just a few days?
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > Urchin

We're having a lot of problems with our server in the afternoons, and according to top, it looks like Urchin is perhaps running stats when this is happening. How can I turn Urchin off for a few days to see if things improve? We don't want to uninstall it, just disable it until we enable it again. We don't appear to have an urchin admin control panel, so this would need to be a command.

Thanks icon_smile.gif

Windows or Linux? Either way, can't you re-schedule the reports to run during the night or at your quietist time?

Linux. And I'd love to reschedule the reports, but I don't know how. I'm assuming this is something to be done from the Urchin admin control panel, but I don't have one. Urchin was set up on my server when I got it, and the usual url to the admin panel doesn't work.

Thanks for any information you may have icon_smile.gif

What url are you using? I don't know anything about urchin on linux, but on my windows boxes, it's http://localhost:9999.

Is this a Cpanel server? Urchin is ran by cpanellogd using the command line tools. Cpanel also shuts down the web interface and task scheduler as using these usually breaks integration. Cpanellod will also "stop" stats processes when the load is above number of cpus + extracpus (set in tweak settings I believe). Urchin runs faster than any of the other stats programs I have seen so this is probably load causing cpanellod to "sleep".
