is there a list of the scripts in /scripts and what they are for ?

It's under the whm docs on their site, it isn't very detailed.
I thought I had heard that someone was going to compile a complete list with details/command switches for these somewhere, but I have yet to see it.

You may want to try the Cpanel forums, those guys will have more of a clue of what is what when it comes to their scripts. Even doing a search there on any script name should give you some results.
As far as any scripts I use - well, I rarely have any problems, but 'upcp' is one of them i use... or even 'upcp --force'. I find that in most cases WHM handles most of the stuff you'd need to do anyhow.

But with that said, I have had Cpanel break, and the only way I could fix it was to 'upcp --force'.
