Hi, i'm having a problem with my servers... Because
at now i have 4 servers... And 1 domain for each, but is expensive by another domain for each server that i buy too..

So, if anyone knows like use 1 domain for 2 or more servers,
like this for example:

hostname Server Number #1: anything.mydomain.com
hostname Server Number #2: everything.mydomain.com

And DNS:

DNS Server Number #1: ns1.mydomain.com ns2.mydomain.com
DNS Server Number #2: dns1.mydomain.com dns2.mydomain.com

I already try to do that and i fail...

The only thing than i got was.. All Dns's and hostname's pointing to 1 server only!..

please anyone that knows like to do that.. help me!!!

Thank you!

First you need to determine which server will be the primary DNS server. then you need to set up zone transfers between each slave and each master server. server 1 could be ns2 server 2 could be ns2 server 3 could be ns3 and so on.

Next you just set the hostnames to ns1.yourdomain.com ns2.yourdomain.com ns3.yourdomain.com

Its actually a very simple process
Sabaote
Thanks, it's really a very simple solution!...

But, for example

if my master Server go down..

The other will be "offline" too, because my mastr server that is doing the redirecting will be offline..

you know ?

thanks

well. if your master go down, your slave will work. remember one will be primary dns server and the other secondary.

So, let me know if i understand right.

i can set my DNS in my Master Server to point to the Slaves,
so here is where i'm losting, In my domain registrar i will use the IP from my Master Server to create all nameservers right?

So ip my Master Server go down for some reason, the slave will not be functional because my Master Server is not redirecting the users to the slaves.

understand my point ?

thank you for all your help!! bye

That's why when you register a domain you specify not only primary DNS, but also secondary (and even third and fourth).

When client asks for your domain, if master DNS isnt answering, it will ask for the second registered DNS server.

The point is that you need to register primary and secondary name servers when you register domains.
Sabaote
Yeah this i know..

But, look
i already tryed do something like that

i taked 2 servers.

In one server i set up 2 Nameservers and 1 Hostname
ns1.myhost.com.br
ns2.myhost.com.br
hostname.myhost.com.br

In the other server
dns1.myhost.com.br
dns2.myhost.com.br
seconde.myhost.com.br

So when i did this, i try put in one domain the dns1 and dns2
and in another one the ns1 and ns2

So what happenned, when i tryed access the domain with ns1 and ns2 it go to my second host and not to where ns1 and ns2 are pointed to

So i did something wrong, i know.

To this works, i have to add in my secondary host the A entrys for the primary host and in primary host the A entrys for the secondary host ?

something like that ?

configuration should be:

Server 1:
ns1.myhost.com.br

Server 2:
ns2.myhost.com.br

Now, you can add domains on the server you want. When you register it, you specify ns1 as primary and ns2 as secondary. You need to configure WHM to tell it that Server 1 is the primary DNS and that Server 2 is the slave one.

With this setup, any domain (hosted in any server) will have duplicate entries in both ns1 and ns2.

With the examples you privided:

Server 1:
ns1.myhost.com.br
hostname.myhost.com.br -> Server 1 IP
seconde.myhost.com.br -> Server 2 IP

Server 2:
ns2.myhost.com.br
hostname.myhost.com.br -> Server 1 IP
seconde.myhost.com.br -> Server 2 IP

If Server 1 is down, then all domains will resolve by ns2. And viceversa.

Thank you, you helped a lot..

We have a web hosting reseller package. We want to setup our own nameserver. we also sale some hosting package form our reseller package. how can we create & setup our own namserver.

We using Cpanel
Sabaote
You can setup their nameservers in Privilegies on Reseller Center, bt only write the Nameservers don't click in any button.

After that you must Edit the DNS Zone for the domain and Add 2 A entrys,

like

ns1.domain.com. 14400 IN A IP
ns2.domain.com. 14400 IN A IP

Save the ZONE and configure the same thing in your domain registrar!!
Gary Simat
the method sabaote mentioned is called 'round robin dns'
Sabaote
I used that because trying to use the Whm automatic DNS Setup won't work.

It no allow two Nameservers using the Same IP, the way is setp it manually!!

What if I have more servers than name servers?
I was remembering that example GoDaddy allows up to 5 name servers for one domain. What if I have example 10 servers and I can only register 5 name servers?

EV1 have only two name servers but I believe they use a lot more servers.
