One virtual domain si not working ...

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

is the error on all ages of account ..

in error logs i can read the folloing:
[Wed Sep 24 17:15:04 2003] [crit] [client 217.229.150.99] (13)Permission denied: /home/eb/public_html/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable

the error is only one acc ... for other accounts on server apache is running fine (at moment)

i used google to find out more about the error and readed something about that it is a bug in apache ... but if it'll be a bug why only this one account on server has the problem ... ?

versions are:

Kernel-Version: 2.4.20-20.7
Apache-Version: 1.3.28 (Unix)
PERL-Version: 5.6.1
PHP-Version: 4.3.3
MySQL-Version: 4.0.15-standard
cPanel Build 8.2.0-RELEASE 28

the error came form one moment to the other ... server reboot doesnt help ... set ulimit higher doesnt help too ...

ok fixed error ...

did this:

chmod 755 public_html/

in the account dir ...

that fixed error and account works fine now ...

but i dont understand why this dir has wrong permission or why the error cames from one moment to another without doing any changes at server ...

has anyone more informations ?

and why do i dont get problems with other accs where public_html is 750 and not 755 ... why only this account ?

any idees ? should i change permission on other accs dirs too ?

thx

ich habe gleiches problem

I have same problem
eth00
Cpanel sometimes does that, I have the same trouble when I restore accounts sometimes (but not all times). You can also use

chmod a+x /home/username/public_html
chmod a+x /home/usuername/public_html/.

that should also fix it without doing the 755
eth00
I hate to bring up old topics but this just took me awhile to figure out.

If you still get the forbidden error first run /scripts/fixquotas. If that does not work check that the sites are within quota or if they have unlimited try to change to something else then back. This problem should only appear when you restore an account.

Thank you very much for this post. I had a site down because of the exact same problem and had been working on for hours, I changed permissions, messed with the .htaccess all day and finally found this thread! once i changed the permissions for public_html/ it worked.

If this happens to you and you do not know how to create your .htaccess just type

CODE
touch /home/user/public_hmtl/.htaccess
